The 7 Most Anticipated Trends of Summer

It’s the start of a new season, and there’s something about the beginning of summer that just feels … magical 😌 The promise of longer days, warm sunny weather, hanging out with friends, and of course, vacations — it all sounds so dreamy! Many of us have exciting events planned in the upcoming weeks, and now is the perfect time to start outfit planning (and add a piece or two you love). Since the season is short, I always recommend buying early to enjoy a longer wearing time.

This past week, I hosted a special event at Soho House here in Portland. It was wonderful to connect with old friends and make new ones. It was a really special evening, and I’m feeling so grateful! After much consideration, I wore the Theory sequined dress (above) and it made me feel comfortable and festive. For my presentation, I brought a couple of rolling racks, and shared a my thoughts about the 7 most anticipated trends of summer.

Today’s post is exciting, because there are many new collections, and everything looks so good right now! Everyone is talking about Palm Royale and touches of red, along with classic pieces that make for a more elegant summer style. These trends will continue into fall, so take note: they’re all wearable, and you’ll have these pieces for years to come. Happy summer! ☀️

#1 Touches of Red

The popularity of anything red continues into summer, and it’s a nice change from all the neutral colors we’ve been seeing for the last few seasons. I just read an article in Who What Wear about the shoe everyone is wearing …. and of course, it’s red! Going into summer, think about adding a red dress and/or a casual red sweater. Below are a few ideas on how to easily incorporate red into your wardrobe.

Shoes: This classic Manolo, this strappy sandal and this cute new flip flop

Dresses: Try a longer midi style like this one, and check out this J.Crew one and this under $100 one

Sweaters: Look at this crochet lady jacket and this cardigan

#2 Palm Royale

This past February, I spent the week in Palm Beach and absolutely loved it! The Colony Hotel was so darling, and I’m already dreaming about going back. On the first morning, a friend gave me an island tour, which was really an inside peek what really happens in Palm Beach. It was exciting to see all the pretty dresses and designer bags everyone was wearing. (That’s not my daily uniform, but it’s fun to see other women dressing like that 😉) Around the pool, it was all about straw hats, flowy coverups and cute straw totes. I haven’t watched Palm Royale yet, but I’ve heard it’s really good so it’s on my list!

Swimwear: Check out this brand, and look at this cute new swimsuit and this white go-with-everything coverup

#3 Stylish Color Combos

Tops/Jackets: Denim jacket | Frame silk blouse | Ivory Veronica Beard blazer | Frame khaki trench

Shades of faded blue and white combined with neutral accessories is always elegant and sophisticated. The striped shirt dress and Rails one above easy pieces to wear all summer long! For jacket options, look at this new cropped trench. And, as you know, everyone needs a denim jacket. This Frame one is a little shorter, and goes perfectly with longer dresses. #4 Anticipated Trend Alert: Longer Skirts

Skirts are definitely having a moment. In fact, they’re one of the most anticipated trends of summer! ICYMI, I wrote about them in this recent blog post. Try a pretty white skirt like the one above, or a classic pleated one like this. And, if you want an Ariana Grande look (no, we’re not too old for that), check out this well-priced skirt. Pair it with a belt and a slim style top.

#5 Classic Elegance

Classic elegance never, ever goes out of style! So, consider adding a few classic summer pieces, like a matching vest and pant. Or, try a classic trouser like this one and a striped knit top. Since these pieces work all year long, making the investment is a really smart idea.
