This Trend Will Have You Ditching Your Jeans in No Time!

Last summer, while perusing Who What Wear, I spotted an outfit that I’ve been thinking about ever since. Ariana Grande was seen at Wimbledon wearing a chic monochromatic gray outfit with 4″ heels and a baseball hat. I realize that only a celebrity might be wearing such a thing to sit on centre court, but nonetheless it was super stylish and I haven’t forgotten about it!

Right now, skirts are having a major moment in fashion. I absolutely love it when a classic item comes back in style and looks so so chic. When I first started working at Nordstrom fresh out of high school, the buyers would make regular store visits. They always had the best style, and I remember one outfit in particular. The buyer was wearing a midi style, stitched down pleated skirt. Every well-dressed person had a version of this outfit, and that might have been the last time I remember skirts being such a big deal!

Fast forward to now, and skirts are everywhere this season thanks to Prada and Miu Miu and other designers who showed them on the runways for SS2024. It’s definitely the item that will give your wardrobe a refresh, and right now there are many different options; everything from a denim skirt to longer flared skirts, and pleated skirts to cargo skirts. Keep reading to see a little street style inspo, some outfit ideas, and which 5 styles are worth adding to your closet right now!

Longer flared skirts

This style feels the newest to me, and is similar to Ariana Grande’s gray one above. I found the white one I’m wearing at Aritzia, though at first I wasn’t sure about it for my 5″1 frame. But, when I tried it on, my little team said it was a keeper (see the try on here)! So I went ahead and had it shortened a couple of inches, and quickly ordered the black one as well. See below for a few others I’ve spotted.

Now is the time to pick up a denim skirt

Denim skirts have been trending since last summer when everyone was wearing the longer midi length styles. That can be a little tricky for some of us shorter gals, so when I started seeing styles that hit at the knee, I got excited! I picked up this L’Agence one (left photo above) that immediately sold out at Nordstrom, but it’s still in stock here and here. Go ahead and grab a denim skirt you love — any length — and wear it all year long.

Pleated skirts

Pleated skirts are another style that I started seeing last season, and I finally purchased this one. I’m currently playing around with new outfits, which I’ll be sharing with you soon. J.Crew has this affordable one, and I saw this one at Nordstrom. It’s another year around style that’s so versatile, and it’ll switch up your outfits in a snap!

Slip skirts

First, it was the slip dress that everyone was wearing … and now it’s the slip skirt! Now is the time to try one. They’re so chic, and the outfit possibilities are endless. If you live in a warm weather climate, you might consider a linen style like this or this. And, of course, Vince makes some of the best ones that are cut on the bias, which is very flattering. Don’t forget your shapewear! If you’re anything like me, you want smooth lines 😉

Utility skirts

The other night while poking around Nordstrom, I saw this utility style skirt by Vince, and immediately wanted to try it. It’s perfect for casual warm weather days, and I can even see it with slingbacks and a lady jacket over your shoulders.
