5 Denim Trends That’ll Make Your Wardrobe Feel Current This Winter
On a daily basis, I make the “rounds” and check out what’s new on all my favorite fashion websites. And right now, there are many great pieces arriving daily that look amazing with denim! Since most great outfits start with a pair of jeans, I think it’s important to stay up date on current trends. However, I know that wandering through the denim department can be a little overwhelming. This is why I’m sharing which styles are worth adding to our closets and a pro-tip that works every time!
My love of denim goes waaaay back. In the early 2000s as a Nordstrom stylist, I worked in the denim department which gave me firsthand, insider knowledge about everything related to denim. These days, it’s still my favorite category of clothing to work with, and I stay very current when it comes to the latest styles. It’s one of the main reasons I travel for “trend shopping.” On every LA trip, you’ll find me on Melrose Avenue popping into all my favorite stores to get the inside scoop on what’s new, what’s selling and what should be on my website!
Today’s post is all about denim, and the pro-tip you’ll want to know. There are 5 denim trends that’ll make your wardrobe feel current this winter, and one of my favorite trends is embellished denim. So … what’s the pro-tip? Stick to the top sellers! If you stick to top sellers, then you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a pair. Why? Because the top sellers fit most everyone well, they’re on trend, and they get great reviews. And, denim brands do a lot of research and design their jeans accordingly. Sparkly jeans have made their way to the runways and street-style scene in recent months, and it’s the trend I’m most excited about. This past spring, I splurged on this Rag & Bone pair, and then realized they just didn’t fit me properly — yes, it happens to me too! But, I’ve been on the lookout since — and just discovered this pair. There are other options too, and they work perfectly into the new year and beyond! See below for my recs.

If there’s one style of jeans that works for pretty much everyone, it’s a pair of straight-leg jeans. They have a timeless silhouette, and can easily be dressed up or down. Plus, they go nicely with almost every type of shoe. From boots to heels to flat sandals and even sneakers — they all work. I prefer a cropped style like the new Frame Le Sleek style. However, I think a long length style is probably more current. Below are my recs!

Gray jeans are a nice alternative when you want to switch things up. When it comes to styling gray denim, I prefer a simple palette such as other shades of gray, brown and black with soft ivory mixed in. Below are my recs!

On any given day, I’m likely wearing Lil’ Mother Hustler jeans in the Not Guilty wash. They make me feel slim, and they’re just so versatile, I hardly have to think about what to wear on top. And, they’re perfect with sneakers, these SW boots and the Gucci loafers I wear regularly (similar to these). In my book, everyone needs a great pair of black jeans. Bonus: Barrel Jeans
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually think barrel (or horseshoe) jeans look kinda cool! Although I’m passing on this trend (because they look terrible on me), if you can pull it off, then go for it. They have a modern silhouette, and they seem to not be going away soon, like I would have predicted 😉 I like them dressed up with pointy heels and blazers.
