Popular Items I’m Pausing This Winter — And What I’m Swapping In

Nothing brings me more joy than helping you all discover new things. And, it makes me so happy when you message me about a purchase you love! I take all of this very seriously and make sure the items I choose for you are really really good. If I wouldn’t buy it myself, you won’t see it here.

This brings me to today’s post … and a few of these things might surprise you! After working in the fashion industry for basically my whole life, here’s my honest take: styles change over time, and some things can start to look a little dated. You know that I believe in choosing carefully and wearing our things all the time, but after a while, they might need an update!

Today’s post is all about the items I’m pausing for now, and the items I’ll be swapping in instead. Many of us have these exact style and beauty finds (and it’s ok if you still love them). A few of these were harder to let go of than others … but the second I made the switch, I instantly felt more comfortable, more youthful, and more confident. As I always say, wear whatever you love and feel most comfortable in. This is one of my top rules for staying fashionable and happy 🤍

The 20 Best Amazon Finds I Keep Rebuying

Travel Notes: Fresh Lessons from New York & My Fall Packing Edit

Pausing: Low Ankle boots

Wearing: Elongated Toe Boots

Left: Green sweater | Right: J.Crew coat | Scarf sweater | Mother Bookie | Staud Wally boots

It might be time for a boot update! Depending on your love of boots (and budget), most of us can get by with only a couple of pairs. And, when you pick right, trust me — you’ll wear them out. I just purchased these everyday heels, and wore them all over London. Super comfortable and perfect with all your jeans.

Pausing Long Cardigans

Wearing: Shorter Button-Front Cardigans

Tuckernuck cashmere cardigan | Brown bag

Longer cardigans had their moment, and this J.Crew one was a wardrobe staple for years. In fact, I secretly wish it would come back — but it has been discontinued. For the past few seasons, shorter cardigans have been taking over, and you can wear them many different ways. Some faves include this one from Quince, this Tuckernuck one above, this Nordstrom one and this longer cable style. All are pretty and cozy for this time of year!

The Sock Update … Pausing No-Shows

Wearing: Crew Socks

Scarlet socks | Ivory socks

It’s time for a little sock update, and a favorite I’ve been wearing lately is this crew style from Aritzia. Since cold weather is on its way, I decided to try pairing socks and loafers together for my trip to London, and landed on these by Falke. I’m hooked! The ivory ones are perfect with last year’s ivory YSL loafers, and I’ve also worn the black and gray ones every day with boots and loafers. Other options include the brand Bombas (look at these and these). If you want a cashmere option, try these by Quince.

Pausing: Shirt Jackets

Wearing: Scarf Jackets

Quince scarf jacket

Scarf jackets are so chic, and when you want a lighter weight jacket, this Quince one is what I recommend. It’s as easy to wear as a shirt jacket, but more stylish and elevated.

Donna Karan vs Salt and Stone Deodorant

Donna Karan deodorant | Salt & Stone deodorant

Everyone loves the Donna Karan deodorant, so I know you might not agree with me on this one. But, after years of trying different brands (and even going back to the Donna Karan one despite the headaches it gave me), I finally found one that’s a winner. Salt & Stone is known for clean beauty, and this scent (above) smells like a soft version of Le Labo Santal 33. It’s aluminum-free, and most importantly, it really works. One other pro-tip: the saffron & cedar scent smells really similar to Rouge 540, and I’ve been layering this body cream with the perfume. It’s a great combo!

Pausing: Joggers

Wearing: Relaxed Pants

Wearing: Mercer jacket (Use code SUSIEW20 for 20% off) | Lodge pants

Drawstring pants are the perfect alternative to joggers, and they instantly update all your outfits. I can’t think of a more versatile pant right now! They’re comfortable and much easier to put on than regular button or zip up bottoms — and the flowy look is casual and understated. These are the ones I recommend:

Chantelle Thongs vs Chantelle Panties

Left: Chantelle thongs | Right: Chantelle High Waist Briefs & High Cut Panties

The other day, I cleaned out my lingerie drawer, rounded up all the old Chantelle thongs, and threw them out. After wearing them on countless occasions and feeling uncomfortable every single time, I decided it was time for them to go. The Chantelle Soft Stretch panties are a whole other thing. After all, they’re a top recommendation in the Nordstrom lingerie department for a reason. They’re super soft and comfortable — try either this style or this one.

Pausing: Chunky Sneakers

Wearing: Slim Sneakers

Lodge pants | Sneakers

I’ve been wandering around London this week and every cool person is wearing a slimmer sneaker right now. I’m seeing lots of simple Adidas sneakers and cool mule options. These are the ones I recommend:

Pausing: Cropped Wide Leg Jeans

Wearing: Full Length Wide Leg

Full length Paige Anessa

Longer length jeans are trending this season, and they work nicely with boots and warm coats. When it comes to ankle styles, I prefer a slimmer leg right now – so chic with ballet flats or loafers!
