Travel Notes: Fresh Lessons from New York & My Fall Packing Edit

There’s nothing like a fun little trip to remind you of what actually works when it comes to traveling. So, if you have an upcoming trip, consider this your definitive travel edit! I just returned from my second trip to New York in a month, and I learned a few things the hard way. While my focus is always about creating an effortless wardrobe and, of course, a super stylish and comfy travel outfit, this getaway taught me a couple of fresh, non-negotiable lessons in smart travel. From the peace of mind an AirTag brings to the absolute necessity of a great carry-on (packed with the right things), these are the tips that make all the difference.

Today’s post is about the travel gear I bring on every trip and the exact pieces I packed. I’m also including a couple of travel outfit ideas and the hotel I wish I could have stayed in 😉 I’m still worried about losing my luggage after our fiasco this past summer, so I’ll never not travel without a perfectly packed carry-on again! I’m talking fresh undies, a little makeup, some pjs, and at least one change of clothes. Keep reading for some outfit inspiration, a few new hotel ideas, and a restaurant I love (plus a little tip for scoring a table). Happy travels!

Trip Highlights From New York

Wearing: Quince cardigan | Slip skirt | Scarf coat | Silk Pj’s | Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York, NY

I’ve been traveling to New York regularly for the past five years, and Fouquet’s has been my go-to for the last ten visits. HOwever, I decided it was time for a break after a disappointing stay last month. From a room that smelled like a smoking party (!!) to poor service night after night (along with several other annoying issues), I knew it was time to look for a new hotel. I had my heart set on the Crosby Street Hotel – the location is perfection and Firmdale Hotels are always so cozy – but after trying several times, it just didn’t work out. I ended up at the Fifth Avenue Hotel, which was a nice stay, but I’m still looking for a new favorite.

Lessons learned: Do a little more hotel research! A huge thank you to everyone who sent recommendations. The ones that keep coming up are The Crosby, The Whitby, The Lowell, and The Surrey. There are others too that I’ll be sharing as well. We all need a few good ideas.

Resturarnt I love: Via Carota! This iconic West Village Italian spot is one of the hardest reservations to get in NYC, but it’s absolutely worth trying. On two separate occasions, I’ve snagged a bar seat just by popping in. The food is incredible: don’t miss the Insalata Verde or the Cacio e Pepe, and don’t skip a Negroni (they’re what the restaurant is known for).
