9 Warm Weather Essentials To Buy Before Spring

I love working on articles for Who What Wear,Ā and you can imagine how honored I am when asked for my ā€œadviceā€ on fashion and styles. My partnership with WWW is coming up on four years now, and I continue to be extremely proud to be affiliated with them. Recently, WWW Editor Drew Elovitz asked me which items I recommend buying once the weather is warm — or what to pack if you’re lucky enough to escape the cold for a few days — and how to spot the most versatile pieces. Click here to read the article, it has some good tips!

This year, I was lucky to travel to warm weather destinations in the off season. Between “blog research” (shopping around) and people watching, I spotted some modern trends that are wearable and easy to incorporate into our current wardrobes. Keep reading to check out what I wore on a recent visit to Mexico, plus some new picks to help you stay on-trend for the upcoming season!

P.S. Todayā€™s post is a recap from my latest WWW article. Remember, when the article first appears in WWW, the clothing selections are made by the WWW team (they also choose the title). But, when I recap the article (like here), the items shared are MY picks! I hope you like them šŸ˜Š

1. Comfy Travel Outfits: Start Here!

It can be a bit tricky to travel from a cold- to a warm-weather destination. I like to wear something that works with both sneakers and sandals, like a jumpsuit. And, jumpsuits are one and done šŸ™‚ Of course, anything you can layer on top will come in handy later!

2. Dresses, Dresses, and More Dresses

Everyone should consider a new dress or two when the weather starts warming up. They’re easy, super stylish, and also one-and-done (like a jumpsuit). Look for styles you can dress up or down for added versatility. They’re ideal for travel too! Right now, I ‘m loving Cara Cara and Farm Rio dresses, as well as linen styles like this one at J.Crew. They’re perfect once spring rolls around.

3. Denim Skirts

Once the weather starts warming up a bit, consider wearing denim skirts. They’re still trending in 2024, and there are many options to choose from. Pair with sneakers or sandals for a casual but elevated look. I love this new button front style that’s only $89, along with this new one by Frame. Both are super versatile, and I’m certain you’ll wear them all season long and into summer!

4. Short Sleeved Cotton Shirts

Frame top | Jeans | Valentino slingbacks | Naghedi tote | Michele watch | Sunglasses

Finding a short-sleeved, cotton top to wear with denim skirts, jeans or even shorts is worth the investment. I wore this one on repeat, and now itā€™s back again this season! Highly recommend a couple of simple cotton shirts for travel to a warm weather climate, like this style or this style. Youā€™ll make dozens of outfits with this one piece!

5. Matching Sets

Matching sets are super comfy and easy, and are actually perfect for sightseeing. You can layer a tee or a tank under, and if it gets too warm, just throw the top over your shouldersā€”so chic and practical! I really like the Spanx AirEssentials collection. Varley also has great options — look at this half zip and these shorts that I wore all summer. I also love this blue color on pre-order at Neiman Marcus — check it out here.

6. Raffia Bags

Raffia continues to gain momentum as the perfect spring and summer neutral. A light, versatile material, raffia accessories go with pretty much every single item in your closet. Bonus: They add a little texture to every warm weather outfit.

7. Cover-Ups

If you have a tropical vacation coming up, a stylish cover-up and a great pair of neutral sandals are essentials. Sheer dresses, linen button-downs, and sarongs will easily take you from the pool or beachside to pre-dinner cocktails. A cover-up is the perfect transition piece!

8. Swimsuits & Accessories

Accessories are the details that take your warm weather outfits to the next level. Look for versatile ones for plenty of wear. For example, a good bucket hat and tote can be worn at the resort, into town for lunch, and while shopping. Don’t forget your sunnies and some pretty jewelry! I took a small in the LoveShackFancy swimsuit pictured above

9. Sandals: the perfect warm weather shoe ā˜€ļø

More comfy than heels and more elevated than flip flops, sandals are the ideal warm weather shoe. You have so many options to choose from! And, you can wear them with pretty much any outfit all through spring and summer, and even into fall. They’re easy to pack because they’re flat, and if you pick neutral colors, you can mix and match, making them a true travel essential (unless you’re going skiing šŸ˜‚). Sandals are pretty much the perfect shoe.
