How often do you go shopping, find something you love, and then fret while it just sits in your closet?! Well, usually it’s because of this shoe mistake: we’re missing the key piece that helps pull it all together. Sometimes it can be a jacket or the right accessories, but more often than not … it’s THE SHOES!
Over the years, I’ve found that shoes can make — or break — an outfit. So, after spending a lot of time in the Nordstrom dressing room, I came up with a simple trick that worked every single time: add an easy, wear-with-everything neutral shoe. Now I’m not saying that a fun red shoe or a metallic shoe doesn’t have a place (it most def does). But, having a solid collection of skin-toned, neutral shoes is actually the key to getting dressed! I believe you should own several pairs — and believe me, you’ll wear them all. In fact, over half my shoe collection is comprised of neutrals. It might sound a bit excessive, but I promise they work with everything.
Today’s post is all about shoes, with a special section devoted to neutral shoes. I feel so passionate about this subject because I’ve tested it out on myself, and trust me — it works. The #1 shoe I’ve worn for years

The Schutz sandal is the #1 most-worn shoe in my closet. The lower cork block heel is a go-to, and I recently had to purchase a second pair since my old ones were starting to look tired! I might go as far as to say this: if you don’t own these, you are missing out … they’re that good. If you like a heel, then the Ariella sandal is another versatile shoe that goes with every nice dress. Both are $128.
The Key: A Neutral Shoe That Goes With Everything

I can’t say enough about the importance of owning several pairs of neutral shoes. I recommend a casual, flat style: a mid-heel like this new Larroude style, or the Schutz one. If you can wear heels, try this L’Agence style or this Gucci one. The trick is to find a shade that blends in with your leg — then the shoes kind of disappear. They’re leg lengthening, and they go with every single outfit! Stop thinking you should only have one pair — you should have several. It gives you more options.
Flatform Sandals Are Going To Be Everywhere
Last Spring while I was shopping on Rodeo Drive, I spotted these Gucci slides, and ever since they’ve been on my radar! Sometimes it takes me awhile to adjust to a new style, but I definitely think these are an update for an everyday summer sandal. Plus if you’re on the shorter side, any extra height is welcome!
Sneakers … of course! Here are the styles I recommend
Sneakers are still THE casual shoe to own. There are many good ones that are still trending, like the French girl classic Veja style. They’re sustainable, cool and comfortable. I like the V-10, but you can’t go wrong with the Campo. Then there are the Sambas, which are kind of impossible to find in stock!
Slingbacks: Flat, Kitten Heel Or Higher

A lower heel slingback shoe is the style to own at the moment. Easy and a little bit sexy, they make any pant, skirt or dress look super stylish. This Miu Miu style with the buckles is an Instagram favorite, and lucky us, we can find versions here and here. Get a pair you love and update pretty much every outfit in your wardrobe!
Metallics Are Trending For Spring 2024, Especially Silver
Metallic shoes of any kind are super versatile, and definitely worth adding to your shoe collection. I love the gold sandals I purchased a couple of seasons ago, and I’ve worn them more often than I thought I would. For a new gold sandal style, look at this one. Don’t make the mistake of not trying a metallic shoe — they’re festive and eye-catching and you might like them!
Strappy Sandals: A Classic

Strappy sandals are another essential wardrobe staple, particularly if you attend special events from time to time. They can be worn with denim and dresses too. I love strappy sandals in neutral tones, as well as anything metallic. And, we can stop thinking they have to be high heeled! They can be any height — whatever you’re most comfortable with. Look for straps that are on the thinner side — I think they look a little better with dresses.
Finally, Flats … We All Need Them!
No mistake here: loafers continue to be the trending shoe to own. They’re pretty much the perfect shoe to wear when transitioning seasons (spring or fall). I love these iconic Gucci ones — they’re a splurge, but you’ll wear them on repeat. I have my eye on this brand new Gucci loafer — look closely at the embellishment around the gold horse bit … so clever!
