Hotel Review: Las Ventanas al Paraíso, Mexico

Las Ventanas al Paraíso, San José del Cabo, Mexico

One rainy fall night over a family dinner, we started talking about how lovely it would be to go back to Mexico. When our kids were younger, we often escaped to Mexico during Spring Break, usually with several other families. It was so much fun, and we have wonderful memories from these vacations! When I started researching hotels for this trip, I was drawn to the quieter San José del Cabo area. The choice was between two hotels: Las Ventanas, and One and Only Palmilla. We decided on Las Ventanas after reading a million reviews (!!) and asking a few friends — and though it was a splurge, we’re glad we did.

This Mexican-Mediterranean resort, which overlooks the Sea of Cortez, is absolutely gorgeous. I felt peaceful and relaxed as we strolled past all the white stucco buildings — we felt like we were in Greece. Then, we entered our room, which I wanted to love … but didn’t! We stayed in that one for two nights, but after looking through dirty windows, dealing with broken blinds and scooping up a few dead bees, I decided it was time to share with hotel management. Even they were a little surprised! Thankfully, they gave us a beautiful penthouse for the remainder of our stay, which quickly changed the flavor of our vacation. Every morning thereafter, we enjoyed room service and took in the incredible views while sipping coffee and lingering as long as possible. Then we’d head to the beach, one of the pools, or the tennis court … if I was feeling ambitious.

So Susie Score: Las Ventanas gets a thumbs up. I would definitely recommend a visit. Cheers! 🥂

Las Ventanas, a Rosewood Resort

Las Ventanas Resort has an elegant, tropical feel, and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We even saw a few celebrities, including Anine Bing, who was celebrating her birthday. I also had the pleasure of meeting two So Susie followers, which ALWAYS makes my day!

The beach bar was really cute, and we watched it come together in just one day! They brought in trees and tall grasses and hung lanterns all around, which made it festive and — well — beachy ☀️ There was ample seating for sipping cocktails, along with large tables where we ate dinner while looking out over the ocean.  My husband, my daughter Em, her boyfriend and I enjoyed tequila tastings, fresh seafood and a relaxed vibe here. It was one of our favorite places to hang out at Las Ventanas!

Favorite dining spots

I’m not sure how I got talked into going off property for three dinners 🤔 but if I had to do it over again, I would recommend only going out twice. Each restaurant took approximately 30 minutes to drive to — but once we did, all three were quite the experience. Here are the details:

Flora Farms I’d heard about this place for years, and couldn’t wait to finally go! It was dark when we arrived, but twinkly lights were everywhere, and the vibe was festive and fun. There was a band playing the best music, and people were dancing, and it was truly a memorable night. We all loved our meals too. This was definitely our favorite restaurant of the trip.

Acre Acre is one of a few farm-to-table restaurants (in addition to Flora Farms) in that area, and they both happen to be next to each other in the foothills of San José del Cabo. The interiors are modern, with greenery everywhere. We really enjoyed our meal, but if I had to choose, I’d go with Flora Farms.

El Farallon This magical dining spot has been on my list for years. The seats overlook the Pacific Ocean, and you can hear the waves crashing below as you choose delicacies from the ocean-to-table menu. It was really amazing to see how it’s nestled into the caves, and there is candlelight everywhere that gives it a romantic glow. On the night we were there, at least 5 different tables were celebrating a birthday … which meant 5 rounds of singing! We enjoyed our meal, but felt like we had missed the special times the restaurant had in the past. We won’t be going back, but I’m happy to have experienced a dinner in such a beautiful setting.
