Travel Notes: Fresh Lessons & My Stylist-Approved Packing Edit

There’s nothing like a fun little trip to remind you of what truly works when it comes to traveling! So, if you have an upcoming trip, consider this your special “insider guide.” I just returned from a trip to Mallorca and London with my daughter, and we definitely learned a few things the hard way! While my focus is always about creating an effortless wardrobe and of course, a super stylish and comfy travel outfit, this getaway taught us a few fresh, non-negotiable lessons in smart travel. From the peace of mind an AirTag brings to the absolute necessity of a great carry-on (packed with the right things), these are the little things that make all the difference.

Today’s post is about the travel gear that saved our trip, the ultimate travel outfit, and the exact pieces I packed . For the first time, our luggage got left behind in Seattle, and it took three full days to finally reach us. I’ll never not have a perfectly packed carry-on again! I’m talking fresh undies, a little makeup, some pjs, and at least one change of clothes. Keep reading for some outfit inspiration, some fun photos, and of course all the things I highly recommend for your next trip. Happy travels

Trip Highlights from Mallorca

Mallorca, Spain | Hotel Son Net

We absolutely loved this boutique hotel, situated in the mountains about 20 minutes outside of Palma. I’ll be sharing more about our trip on Substack, including several mistakes we made and a few things we absolutely loved!

Lessons we learned: Always have an AirTag or some other kind of identifier in your luggage. While it doesn’t bring back your luggage any faster, at least you know where it is. We’d come a little complacent after never losing luggage, and had all the wrong things in our carryon. Learn from us: makeup, pjs, undergarments, change of clothing and a swimsuit — then at least you can start your vacation!

My 6 Best Packing Tips! ✈️

Here are a few things I’ve discovered throughout my travels to help you pack more efficiently

#1 – Use a rolling rack first to make your selections. This is the easiest way to see everything you want to bring. And, it helps you identify what might not make the cut. Once you have all your items organized on the rack, it makes packing so much easier!

#2 – Pack by activity. I started this a few years ago, and it has been a lifesaver no matter where you’re going. If you have several events to attend, it is particularly helpful. This is another packing tip I follow for every trip.

#3 – Packing cubes or no packing cubes? Lately, I’ve been doing a combination of laying clothes straight into the suitcase, and putting some other things in packing cubes. For example, on this trip, I put swimsuits/coverups into a packing cube, as well as workout clothes/coffee run/casual outfits. Also put pjs and undergarments in a packing cube. It feels organized and makes it easy to unpack and re-pack. If you’re going with packing cubes, I highly recommend these!

And three more …

#4 – Buy doubles of your makeup and skincare. Quite often, you can find travel minis of your favorite beauty items. This cuts down the cost and makes it so much easier to have an already stocked toiletry bag.

#5 – Everyone should have an AirTag in their checked luggage. I didn’t realize the importance of having an AirTag in my luggage …. until my luggage went missing for three full days! While it didn’t help it arrive any sooner, it did give a peace of mind that I knew exactly where it was. I’ll never leave home without one from here on out!

#6 – Pack your necessities in your carryon. Always make sure to have your must-have cosmetics, pjs, and an extra change of clothes, just in case your bag doesn’t make it. This happened on a recent trip to France. I was really happy I had my carryon with me 🙂
