Skinny jeans are out! Here’s what to wear in 2024😉

… and the one style of denim that is the most flattering of all

It’s not often that I make such a bold statement, but at the end of the day, I truly believe we can wear whatever we want, whenever we want! And really, there are always exceptions — even with skinnies. I wore mine the other day with a big oversized shirt and sneakers — and someone messaged me about it!! So … here’s the scoop: I haven’t purchased skinny jeans since before the pandemic. At that time in 2019, when I was still working as a Nordstrom Stylist, I can confirm that skinnies were already trending down. Currently, skinny jeans make up only 12% of the denim buy at Nordstrom.

If we want our outfits to be stylish and current, then I think skinny jeans should be pushed off to the side … for now. And, while you’re at it, scoot those low rise jeans to the back of the closet as well! Working at Nordstrom for what seems like a lifetime did have a few benefits, and one of them was feeling/looking young by staying up on trends. While we don’t need a ton of different clothing items, instead try to keep some updated denim and a few other cool, modern staples. They really go a long way towards making stylish outfits!

Today’s post is about one style of denim that might be the most flattering style of all! That’s right, flare jeans and bootcut styles are everywhere, and they’re sooo flattering. Read on to find out which styles are worth paying attention to, and how to wear them. Many of you also want to know which shoes to wear (sneakers?), which jackets to keep, etc., so I’ll address that too. I’ll also share a little street style inspo, some new style boards and, of course, some super cute pieces I think you’ll love. I hope you enjoy this post! ⭐️

Insider update: Denim is entering more-elevated territory, and one way we’re seeing that play out is jeans with hard creases, pleats, and pin tucks. The effect instantly makes the jeans resemble trousers and take on a dressy look. The style was spotted on the S/S 24 runways at Gucci, Tibi, and Remain and is already appearing on the market.

#1 Wide leg jeans | Lady jackets | Pointy toe slingbacks

Wider length jeans and looser styles are everywhere, and they look modern and cool. If you’re on the shorter side, try a petite version like these new ones by Frame and Mother. They can be a little tricky, but this season, they might be worth trying. Try pairing with shorter lady jackets — so chic and easy to wear! See below for more favorites.

#2 Boot cut jeans | Casual jackets | Boots

A slim boot cut style jean is flattering on everyone. The longer length updates them, and many styles of shoes work, from boots to pumps to sneakers (depending on your height). Try pairing them with a casual jacket and a boot that will take you into spring. I like a white or soft ivory, camel or neutral color. Of course, black always looks great too!

# 3 Flare jeans | Blazers | Sandals

Flare jeans are the easiest and most flattering style of all. They’re leg lengthening and work with every shoe listed in this post. This time around, I prefer them a touch shorter than how we used to wear them (to the floor). I also like them to be not as tight! Try pairing them with a polished blazer for a classic look that’s sophisticated and elevated.
