Here are the top items you loved in 2023!

These are worth sharing … and they’re still in stock

Happy New Year! January always feels like a fresh start to everything, and what better way to start than with our closets. I really believe less is more when it comes to getting dressed, and having the RIGHT items is key! Over the years of helping all of us get dressed (and buying product for Nordstrom), I’ve realized that there are many of the same items that we all love. And, that’s what today’s post is all about! What could be better than that. Let me explain.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked you this question on Instagram: what are your top, favorite purchase(s) from So Susie? A college friend I helped regularly in “Room 3” at Nordstrom told me about how many things she’s purchased from me, and how much she loves everything she has bought. I must admit, one of the things I enjoy so so much about my job is hearing from all of you. Whether it’s a DM, text, or even in person — it’s so helpful! I love the feedback, and I get some of the best blog ideas from our exchanges, so …  thank you ❤️

Over 500 of you responded in 24 hours — which is absolutely amazing. Of course, many of the same pieces kept coming up. So, these are the top items, from first hand reviews from everyone besides me! I try really hard to carefully select the things I talk about on the blog, and own almost all of them. And, I always follow my authenticity promise: I own these items or have tried them on, or they’re on my list and I want to try them because trusted sources have given them great reviews. Read on to see what they are and why we love them!

Your favorite purchases from 2023

: Veronica Beard turtleneck, solid colors here | Aritzia pant | L’Agence sandal | Chloe tote | Jenny Bird bracelet

I’m excited to share everyone’s favorite 2023 purchases! It’s always nice to hear your comments and reviews, and many of these top items are my personal favorites as well. I’ve worn this J.Crew cardigan countless ways, and same with these Mother Jeans. I also adore this fragrance, the Brinker & Eliza heart bracelet and the incredible Beis Weekender.

The very best denim – 5 styles everyone should try

Left: Trench |Mother Insider | Right: | Cinq a Sept jacket | Rag & Bone Peyton

After reading hundreds of responses, these are the jeans that came up over and over again. Mother denim is the clear winner, and here are the three best styles: Hustler, Insider and Weekender. And, a new discovery this past fall: Lil Mother, which is the petite version of the Mother best sellers. The other two that came up over and over again are the Rag & Bone Peyton and the Paige Cindy. You can’t go wrong with any of these fits!

Frank & Eileen dress | ATM t-shirt | Spanx AirEssentials

Left: Frank & Eileen dress | Havaianas | Right: ATM t-shirt | AirEssentials crew and pant Frank & Eileen Mary dress: This dress is so good, and it’s perfect for vacation or warm weather days around the house, as well as for running errands. It comes in many versions, and the ones I’ve tried and recommend include the white denim one and the one I’m wearing above.

ATM t-shirt: This t-shirt is an all-time fave. It’s arm flattering, perfect with so many things and it’s pretty much the only white t-shirt you’ll ever need. Because it’s expensive, I baby mine by hand washing it and hanging it to dry. It’s a little extra work, but it’s worth it!

Spanx AirEssentials – Talk about stylish, comfortable, and perfect for errands as well as travel, the AirEssentials collection is SO GOOD! According to their website, the fabric is “lightweight, soft and ultra drapey, and designed to feel silky against your skin.”  Check out this brand new jumpsuit or this striped top – both so cute. Use code: SUSIEXSPANX for 10% off.

Frame Jetset pants | Frame striped cotton shirt

Frame Jetset jeans: Talk about the perfect travel pant, these jeans are hardware free, making them super comfy. They’re also one of the best-selling items on the Frame website, and come in several styles and a handful of different washes. I love the cropped ones in warmer weather, and the longer ones for this time of year.

Frame Striped cotton top: This cute striped top was one of my personal favorites last year, and just a couple of weeks ago I noticed it’s back in another color. The arm length is super flattering, and it’s a top you’ll wear all the time with many different bottoms.

Loewe tote | Rebecca Minkoff clutch

Loewe basket tote: This tote has gone on almost every warm weather trip with me for the last several years. It’s versatile, super stylish and holds everything you need!

Rebecca Minkoff clutch: If you need a clutch, this one is a great option. It’s well-priced and goes with everything from dresses to denim.

Nippies | Colleen Rothschild Cleansing Balm

Nippies: I discovered these a year ago after my friend literally lifted up her top so she could show me the magic these little stickies do! They’re comfortable, and more supportive (ish) than you might think. The trick is to stick them on a little lower, and pull up your breast tissue so it sticks up a little higher. If that makes any sense? 😂

Colleen Rothschild Cleansing Balm: This is a mini-spa in a jar! I’ve gone through many jars myself, and several members of my family love it just as much as I do.

Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra | Brinker & Eliza heart bracelet

Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra: If you need the perfect strapless bra, this is a stylist favorite.

Brinker & Eliza: This is one of my favorite jewelry brands for slightly larger statement pieces. The heart bracelet is a favorite that I’ve had for several years. You can find it here.

Rails Eyelet dress | Varley everything

Rails Eyelet dress: If you love easy, cotton warm weather dresses, then this is a good one to try. It’s really versatile and can be worn during the day or for a more casual evening event.

Varley everything – The UK brand Varley is so cool, and it’s worth checking out if you haven’t already. There are so many pieces you’ll love, including the top I’m wearing above, this jacket, this satin trimmed 1/2 zip, and this sweater. If you see something you love, don’t wait — some styles sell out quickly.

Good American Faux Leather skirt | Rails Denim jacket

Good American Faux leather skirt: Skirts are trending, and this one is a good one to add to your wardrobe. It’s a little sexy, and really versatile. It sold out at a couple places, but I found it at Saks.

Rails denim jacket: Anything with a sparkle button catches my eye, and this denim jacket just arrived. The outfit possibilities are endless!

One of the most important top items: shoes

Larroude Vivi – Similar to the Schutz sandal below, these have a special heel that makes them a touch dressier. They’re perfect with jeans and dresses, and are surprisingly comfortable.

Schutz Victorie – This might be one of the easiest styles of shoe to wear. The heel height is perfect, and the neutral color goes with everything — dresses, denim, shorts. As you can see by my photos, I wear these all the time.

L’Agence heels: You might be surprised how versatile these sandals are. Look at the pointed toe, the perfect heel height, and they’re really comfortable. I’ve worn both the beige and black for the last three years.

Gucci favorites

If you invest in classic designer pieces, you’ll wear them over and over again. Here are the Gucci favorites you loved this year!

Gucci grey scarf: This pretty soft gray scarf is another piece everyone loves, and it’s really versatile.

Gucci bucket bag: I purchased this bag several years ago, and returned it since the drawstring didn’t cinch tight. But then my friend (and Gucci specialist) proceeded to tell me it’s her absolute favorite bag, and that she had even purchased a second color. So, I promptly went back and re-bought it, and it has been on constant rotation ever since!

Gucci Horsebit – This continues to be a top shoe, and if you’re up for a splurge, this sandal is stylish, comfortable and really quite chic. Wear them with denim, pants, dresses — most seasons of the year. Someone wrote me “huge splurge, no regrets.” So there you go!

Gucci Loafers: Between the classic loafer, or this newer chunkier style, you just can’t go wrong. Not only are they trending, but these versatile shoes will go with many things in your closet.

J.Crew Juliette cardigan | 1822 Utility jacket

J.Crew cardigan: Another one of J.Crew’s top items for several years, this oversized cardigan works all year ’round. You can layer a scarf over it when it’s cool, and in warmer months, wear it with a simple white tank and your favorite jeans. It runs big, so definitely go down one or two sizes. I wear the XXS for reference.

$69 utility jacket: I mean, what a deal! It’s stylish, comfy due to a little stretch, versatile, and crazy well-priced. I wear mine beginning in spring, all the way through October. It has sold out at Nordstrom three times already, so if you haven’t bought it yet,  don’t wait!

Beautiful blazers: Veronica Beard | Cinq A Sept

Veronica Beard blazer: The Miller Dickey jacket is a top seller, and everyone who owns it loves it. The hidden zipper detail is really handy, and gives you the option to zip in fun dickeys which can switch up your entire outfit. I find them to run a touch big, and I wear the size 2 (I’m usually a 4). For sleeve shortening, find a really, really good tailor, and have the sleeves taken up. Just make sure it’s not too tight in the upper arm area!

Cinq a Sept blazer – The Khloe crepe blazer is a great blazer. The year-round fabric makes it versatile, and everyone loves this style. For reference, I wear the size 2, but I’ve heard that if you have broad shoulders, you should go up a size.

Not photographed but also amazing …

Gigi Clozeau necklace – Last summer, I started wearing this necklace, and I would often get a handful of comments asking about it (even if I was talking about something else)! It might go down as the favorite necklace I’ve ever owned, and I’m so glad many of you love it too. It’s dainty, perfect for layering, and I haven’t take mine off since I got it.

Beis Weekender bag: I’ve written about this bag extensively, and have received so many questions that I’ll soon be sharing a video on how to pack it! It’s in stock as of today, so don’t wait. It does fit under the airplane seat — I’ve taken it on over 20 flights — but the trick is to only pack it 1/2 full, or it will have to go overhead!

Spanx “Perfect Pants” Spanx has their fit dialed in, and the Ponte fabric is slimming and holds you in just a little. You can wear these all year. I LOVE the new split hem ones — so chic! For something more classic, the slim straight pants are great (I wore them in this video). And, if you like a classic wide leg style, look at these. All so good!
