The 9 trend items I saw in London this year
I love working on articles for Who What Wear, and you can imagine how honored I am when asked for my “advice” on fashion and styles. My partnership with WWW is over three years old now, and I continue to be extremely proud to be affiliated with them. This past year, I was lucky enough to be in London twice, both in the summer and in the fall. So, when my friend and Senior Editor Bobby Schuessler asked me which trends I spotted in London, I was happy to oblige! To be honest, it was easy since I’m always looking for great street style to share with you. You can read the WWW articles here and here.
After sorting through my camera roll over the past year, I’ve zeroed in on the top trends that will make our closets more fashionable. You might notice that the items I’ve selected are ones I’ve been mentioning regularly. For example, a striped knit and relaxed trousers is a favorite combo, and right now, it’s a super stylish option. Of course, oversized shirts and white sneakers are also essentials, and they make easy, effortless outfits. Remember to focus on the items you truly love and feel good in! In my opinion, it’s actually better to have fewer pieces — this makes getting dressed much much easier.
P.S. Today’s post is a recap from my latest WWW article. Remember, when the article first appears in WWW, the clothing selections are made by Bobby and his team (he also chooses the title). But, when I recap the article, the items shared are MY picks! I hope you like them 😊
#1 Oversized wool coats
Black coat | Mother denim | SW boots | Naghedi tote
Every fashionable person in London these days is wearing a slightly oversized wool coat (mostly in black, gray or neutral) over straight-leg jeans, boots and a big scarf. A longer-silhouette coat gives off a sleek, stylish vibe.
#2 Relaxed trousers
Velvet striped sweater | Aritzia trousers
It’s a trend here in the U.S. as well, but relaxed trousers worn with sneakers, loafers and even heels were on full display in London— mostly with looser sweaters and longer coats.
#3 White sneakers
Spanx sweatshirt | Leggings | Sneakers | Monos luggage
#4 Classic gray sweaters
Aritzia coat | Anine Bing sweater | Mother Hustler | Loeffler Randall boots
Seen everywhere in London: chunky turtlenecks and classic gray sweaters layered under wool coats. Casual, but sophisticated,
#5 Loose shirting
Frame oversized shirt | Mother Weekender jeans | Toteme boots | YSL tote
One of the best casual looks was on a cute style girl who was standing just outside our hotel. She had on an oversized shirt, loose trousers and a baseball hat. So easy!
#6 Straight leg denim
Theory peacoat | Mother denim | ATM t-shirt
Faded blue or black seems to be the go-to wash this season for straight-leg denim styles. They look great with absolutely everything! Reach for these when you don’t know what to wear and you’ll have an outfit in no time 😉
#7 Sweaters tied over shoulders
Cashmere sweater | Vince dress
It might be due to the unpredictable London weather (even when I went in the summer), but everyone was wearing a sweater loosely tied around their shoulders. Throw one on over coats, blazers and dresses — you’ll look so chic!
Pro Tip: The J.Crew cashmere sweater is one of the best sweaters for throwing over your shoulders
#8 Matching sets
Camel sweater and skirt | Dolce Vita sneakers | Naghedi tote
This is another easy way to look elevated and still be practical if you’re in the city. I saw both sneakers and knee boots worn with the matching sets, as well as with knit sweaterdresses. So stylish!
#9 Black boots
Trench coat | Mother jeans | Boots | Isabel Marant sweatshirt | YSL tote
Literally everyone in London (and everywhere else) is wearing black boots these days, mostly in a Chelsea style or a flat knee style. Pair denim with the Chelseas and knee boots with dresses and skirts. You’ll be up to date and look amazing!
