5 ways to get your wardrobe ready for fall!

The other day in Portland, I noticed a hint of fall everywhere: from empty shelves in Walmart (back-to-school rush) to cozy sweaters and candles in all my favorite stores to that crisp breeze we all know and love! Everyone seems to be in full on fall mode, and while I’m not ready for summer to end, the thought of cooler evenings and soft blankets sounds kind of good 🙂

Since we’re in the process of transitioning our summer-to-fall outfits, today’s post is about 5 ways to get your wardrobe ready for fall. As we move towards this new season, getting dressed can be a little tricky. It can still be quite warm during the day, but the evenings cool off quickly. So, simply adding another layer will help you prepare seamlessly. Read on to see what to add, as well as some new favorites I hope you’ll like!

#1 Add a touch of animal print

It seems like I say this every year — but once again, animal print is still trending! This season, in addition to leopard print, you’ll see snake print in many collections. Wear with white denim – love love love – and later, add a darker jean and a cozy cardigan. Since it’s pretty much a neutral at this point, find a piece or two you love, and you’ll have it for years, I promise. I adore the halter dress above, and the chain neckline is a pretty detail. Also look at this dress, and this bucket bag.

 

#2 Add a skirt

This season skirts are trending, and it’s a nice change to see so many skirt options available. Of course slip style skirts have been around, and the Vince ones above are some of my favorite. I also love this J.Crew option and this Anthropologie one too. Wear them with slightly oversized blazers, denim jackets, matching cardigans or even a simple white tee. Some faves are below.

 

#3 Add the color camel — it always looks expensive

Camel is the color that instantly adds elegance to any outfit. It also makes your outfits look way more expensive! J.Crew has the best shade of camel; check out this cardigan, and this one too. A camel coat is also quite luxurious, look at this one and this one. Camel always looks sophisticated when paired with black, white or gray, as shown in the style board above.

 

#4 Find loafers you love

When the weather transitions, loafers are one of the easiest shoes to wear! Sometimes it’s too early for boots, and yet sandals don’t feel quite right once the middle of September rolls around. I love these Larroude loafers – I used them in this recent capsule wardrobe. Gucci loafers are classics, and this Sam Edelman version is affordable and designer inspired!

 

#4 Refresh your accessories

There’s nothing like adding a special scarf you love or even a pretty piece of jewelry – it levels up your wardrobe!

 

#5 Update your denim with this new silhouette

Updating your denim gives new life to all your wardrobe basics, and this season it’s all about wide leg denim!
