I went trend shopping in LA: Here’s what I found!

This past week,  I took a three-day work trip to Los Angeles for meetings, business brainstorming, trend shopping and people watching. These trips are fun and inspiring, and I always return home on idea overload! Some ask, what exactly is “blog research” and why do you do it? Well, trend shopping, or “blog research” as I call it, is where I check out all our favorite stores to see the merchandise in person. As we all know, shopping online isn’t always easy, and seeing the product firsthand helps me select the items I’m going to feature on the blog. I take this all very seriously (!!), and always strive to remain authentic and honest. So, the pieces that end up here are ones I’ve either purchased, helped someone with, tried on, or want to try. This is my “authenticity promise” to you!

Today’s post features shopping highlights from this LA trip, tips on what to buy from your favorite brands, and a few recent purchases. We covered A LOT of ground in three days, and got some helpful insider tips by popping in and asking the salespeople and managers some questions about fit, top sellers, etc. Something to note: whether you purchase straight from the brand or from stores I link to (Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman Marcus, Revolve, Intermix, Shopbop, and more), returns are ALL EASY! Trust me, I’ve purchased and made returns to all these places 🙂 Hope you enjoy the new style boards below!

P.S. If you’re new around here and want to stay up to date on all things stylish, and the bound-to-sell-out items we ALL need, then subscribe here and never miss a post! You can also check out my Instagram Reels videos here. Cheers!

Day One, first stop: the Frame store on Melrose Avenue. The collection of cornflower blue, soft white and hints of black immediately caught my eye. Nicole, the general manager, was covering the store, and shared amazing product knowledge about all the different denim fits (more on that later). Next stop: across the street to the L’Agence store. This is another favorite, and they also had this pretty shade of blue in the latest collection. The takeaway: this shade of blue will be everywhere for spring 2023!

Frame denim store in LA

Frame, a favorite brand, has THE BEST denim, blouses, sweaters — everything! I love this new cornflower blue collection that I mentioned above, and have my eye on several things below. All of my stylist friends consider Frame a go-to brand, and their jeans fit really well. Everyone loves them!

Frame stripe top | Frame ecru denim | Frame dress | Straw bag | Scarf | Valentino sandals | Sunglasses | Bracelet

What to buy at Frame?

Denim, of course! The mini-boot, Le High straight and Le High Flare are favorites

I love this blouse, I have it in black and leopard print — the sleeve detail is so pretty

Loving the new cornflower blue collection: This silk blouse, this cardigan for throwing over your shoulders, and this short sleeved shirt

Their t-shirts are the best: this v-neck, this ruched sleeve and this linen one

For a non-jean option, this trouser is the best — I have it in two colors

Rails LA

Several months ago, I received an email from Caroline, a Senior Manager of PR & Communications for Rails. She shared a story where Jeff, the founder, was at dinner in Montecito and he met someone who follows So Susie. This person mentioned to Jeff that I feature a lot of Rails product … so they reached out. Love when that happens 😉 We arranged a meeting in LA this past week, and we got a tour of the facility too. As I mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter, I was very impressed, and have a whole new appreciation for the brand. AND, the collections look incredible. I can’t wait til they start arriving in stores!

What to buy at Rails?

Dresses are favorites, especially this time of year as we start to think about spring. Look at this shirtdress and this kelly green dress

I love the Arlo shirt, which is slightly oversized. This striped one is new, and so is this eyelet one

Pretty blouses like this one are so good at Rails, and they look great with faded denim. I also spotted this one that you’ll wear all the time

Love this eyelet sleeve sweater and this color blocked cardigan, both perfect heading into spring

Bottega Veneta Jodi bag

Craig’s LA is always on our dinner list, and talk about great people watching! Last year, we were seated at the table directly behind the check-in desk. Our server told us that the joke around there is that our table is the best show in town! Since last year, I’ve noticed four different people at Craig’s carrying the Bottega Veneta Jodi bag, so I took a mental note. I’ve been contemplating that bag for some time, and everyone carrying it looked so chic! During this visit, I spotted two different super stylish women carrying the bag. I’ve concluded it’s a super cool bag to own!

L’Agence store

Everything from L’Agence is catching my eye these days, like gorgeous shoes, blazers, silk dresses and blouses, and of course, denim. I could go on and on — it’s ALL good. The fit is perfect, and every style is great quality and super stylish!

L’Agence blouse | Mother denim | Burberry bag | Tennis necklace | Leather jacket | L’Agence dress | L’Agence sandals

What to buy at L’Agence?

Hands down, this denim jacket is a favorite! It’s available in several colors. They run a little small so I suggest sizing up

Blazers are a top item to pick up at L’Agence, and I like this one and this one

L’Agence blouses are so pretty, look at this and this

This new snow leopard print above is pretty in person

I’ve worn these sandals non-stop. They’re not too high, and the pointy detail is a little edgy

Wider leg denim

Between Palm Springs and LA, everyone is wearing wider leg denim. I’m not talking about big baggy denim — there’s plenty of that, and it’s hard to wear. I’m talking about styles like the Mother Weekender and Paige Genevieve. Super sexy, every day flare leg denim that is so so flattering!

Shoe inspo from Saks and Neiman Marcus LA

I always make it a point to visit the Saks and Neiman Marcus stores off Rodeo Drive. Their shoe departments are PACKED with great shoes. Often, you might walk into Nordstrom and see a representation of certain brands like Valentino or Prada, but I find the selection to be a little limited. That’s why visiting Saks and NM is so good, because not only are there more brands, but the selection in both stores is over the top!

Vix coverup | Zimmermann swimsuit | Straw bag | Valentino sandals | Sunglasses

What to buy at in the shoe department?

Valentino sandals like this or this bronze pair similar to above. Also tried these on in the color “poudre”

Brand new sandals like these well-priced cork ones, and these metallic ones

Cool sneakers like this new pair from Rag & Bone, these Veja ones, and of course, these Alexander McQueens

Speaking of shoes, I was at Nordstrom and saw these in all colors — LOVE!
