These 5 items make my outfits look expensive
There are certain items that instantly add sophistication and elegance to any outfit. And while they don’t need to be expensive, it doesn’t hurt if they look expensive! As a matter of fact, there are many great pieces that feel “designer” but cost a fraction of the price. This is the art of high/low dressing, and chances are many of the fashion girls that catch your eye on Instagram or Pinterest have this mastered!
Many of you following along have seen these Who What Wear articles over the last six months, and I thought Iâd share a little about the process âbehind-the-scenes.â It works something like this: Bobby Schuessler, the Senior Market Editor, sends me an email with a title idea, and we discuss it a bit. Then I provide the photos and descriptions about the items I select. When the article is published, the clickable items are chosen by WWW editors. Todayâs post is a recap of the article titled “I’m 55 and a Former Nordstrom Buyer – These 5 Items Make My Outfits Look Expensive,” as well as the new items Iâm highlighting. This way, you get the best of both: their top choices, and mine too! I hope you like them! đ

#1 Anything Camel
Sophie cardigan | Allsaints tee (with shoulder pads!) | Mother denim | Dior bracelets | Givenchy bag | Mules
“Camel is the color I can think of that instantly adds sophistication and elegance to any outfit.”I wrote about the color camel recently in this article, and every day I find new pieces that I’m excited to share with you, like this sweater, this wrap coat and this bootie!
#2 Faux Leather
Bardot jumpsuit | Sandal | Zara bag | The Daily Edited phone case | Sunglasses
“A must-have for this season, faux leather can easily pass for real leather but at a fraction of the cost. A faux-leather blazer, dress, or jumpsuit is current and cool.” Another category where brand new pieces are arriving daily, and honestly you would never know they’re not the real thing! You’ll love this blazer (looks amazing with denim), and this dress too.
#3 Classic denim
Club Monaco blazer | Mother denim | Alexandre Bierman sandal | Frame cami | Poppy Finch necklace | Givenchy handbag
“Denim is always stylish and adds a chic twist to any outfit. Since we all love denim, try dressing up your favorite pair by adding a blazer and strappy sandals. You’ll feel quite put-together.” Denim has been a specialty of mine for the last decade, and I believe investing in a few go-to styles is the key to making all your outfits work. Every day new styles roll in, and the brands I always gravitate towards are Frame, Mother, Paige and AG.
#4 Black separates
Nanushka faux leather top | Gold sandals, similar | Mother denim | YSL bag | Flowy trench, similar
“All black. It always, always elevates your look. Your outfit will appear more elegant and expensive, even if you scored a deal.” Black just works — always. Wear it any time of year; it looks great with literally everything!
#5 Elevated accessories
Michael Stars tank | J.Crew cardigan | Mother denim | Zara bag | Sunglasses | Sandals | BeltÂ
