Solage Resort and a life changing packing tip

The one packing tip that’s life changing 🙌

This week my Nordstrom 6 friends and I shared some packing tips and ideas on what to bring on a long weekend getaway (you can view my IGTV video here). Gotta admit, I’m not necessarily the best packer — since I always overpack — and then don’t even really like the outfits I end up choosing 😂  However, I was pleasantly surprised this time. I pretended I was packing for a long weekend in Calistoga. A couple of years ago, during a long weekend girls’ getaway there, we enjoyed one of the most memorable lunches at Solage Resort (the yummiest fish tacos ever), and I vowed to visit again soon!

While I can easily pack for others, and now apparently for “pretend trips” haha, one thing that’s for sure is that packing cubes are absolutely life changing. I had a few skeptical clients awhile back, but they tried them and agreed that they really do make packing easier! So, keep reading for my packing tips, a favorite makeup organizer you all need, and a few other ideas you’ll hopefully like!

Travel Essentials

Having a carry-on that’s not black makes life easier at baggage claim, especially after a mishap where my black suitcase went home with someone else! This cosmetics organizer is the one I’ve been using for the last couple of years; the price is reasonable and it gets great reviews. Lastly, my number one packing tip is to invest in packing cubes. Everyone in the family should have a set! My kids use these on every trip. I’ve written about them over and over again, read more here and here. They keep you so organized, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them!

Travel minis

Not only are travel minis really handy, but they’re also PERFECT for trying out new products. Check out this all-time favorite Oribe Texturizing Spray, this Tom Ford travel perfume , and also this compact magnifying mirror – an absolute must!! Travel outfit

For months I’ve been wearing this Vuori jogger, which is amazing and probably the most talked about item on the blog (read more here and here). I always bring this black scarf with me, whether we’re heading to Hawaii, Europe or just a local weekend trip. This one is a cashmere silk blend, and I recommend it to everyone. Lately I’ve been loving my Levi’s faded denim jacket, these Veja sneakers and this basic white tank.  All are easy and comfortable pieces for your day of travel!

All-white outfit

You won’t stop wearing this perfect white tank by Michael Stars! It’s not too tight and not too loose, and goes with absolutely everything. I recently picked up these Mother white skinnies, and tied this cardigan-favorite around the waist (it works just as nicely around the shoulders). This packable hat has been with me on many trips, and so have these Valentino flip flops. You will love these two easy-to-pack essentials.

Workout outfit

I always throw in a workout pant and tee, just in case. Not that I do any major working out while on vacation, but it comes in handy for long coffee walks in the morning! Also, these new pants come in 25″ length, which means NO HEMMING. And, I added this bright pink tank and this white tee. Now there’s no excuse not to exercise!

Jeans + knit blazer

I’m a jeans girl, so most of the time, I pack light wash and black denim or light wash denim and white jeans. It depends on the time of year and the weather. This new J.Crew blazer feels like a sweater, it’s super comfy, but it looks nice and polished. And, I added a scarf which is RARE! I’m wearing the faded jean favorites by Mother.

Swim

Another just-in-case item to pack, depending on where you’re going. A cute cover-up is key, and a stylish one-piece swim is really all you need! I love J.Crew swim – they always have a great selection. For a splurge brand, look at Marysia, and look at the scallop details  — they are so pretty!

Face coverings

Soon, I’ll be devoting an entire post to this latest accessory that we’re all wearing these days. And, right now there are so many cute ones — why not add a few to compliment all your outfits? I recently purchased one by Veronica Beard leopard, this set of two, and a toile pattern set which is identical to the one my son made me from leftover pillow fabric. Here are a few I think you’ll love!
