My Daughter and I Are 30 Years Apart … And These Are The Things We Won’t Travel Without
Right now, many of us are thinking about summer vacation plans! Around here, we’re in trip planning mode, and are happily dreaming of all the possibilities. It’s tricky to get all the kids together, but we’ve landed on a date, and I’ve booked a one-way ticket to London. And, that’s as far as I’ve gotten! One way tickets are my secret travel hack — this surprises everyone, but it always works out well. For the rest of the trip, since Emily and I are the family planners, we’re trying to figure out the rest of the trip. Up for consideration: Nice, Naples, Sicily or Puglia. Stay tuned!
Em and I have traveled a lot together over the last couple of years — work trips that always end up being some business and a lot of fun. Over time, we’ve landed on the same little arsenal of items we never travel without. Some of it is practical gear (the charger she’s tired of me borrowing 😂 and the best eye mask). And, some of it is the wardrobe pieces we’ve both come to rely on — starting with the travel pant we always wear. Today I’m sharing all of them, and there’s a mix of high and low finds. These are items we’ve tested, retested, and both keep packing. Happy travels!

My Daughter and I Are 30 Years Apart … And We Keep Buying the Same Things!
The Ultimate Vacation Style Guide for Every Summer Trip
Substack – The May Edit: What we’re buying, eyeing, and overly obsessed with right now
20 Things We Both Take On Every Trip

Emily: Tan jacket | Susie: Rag & Bone blazer | Steve Madden boots | Amazon luggage set
#1 – Apple Headphones – Sometimes I feel like I’m trying to look like a teenager, but I must admit, they’re total game changers on the airplane! The noice cancelling feature actually works and silence everything – even a crying baby. I love listening to music or scrolling Instagram Reels – it feels relaxing and like I’m in my own world. Em had hers engraved for an extra detail.
#2 – One-way flights – My secret travel hack that surprises everyone! I only book one-way flights — it costs the same as a round trip, and gives you way more flexibility if you need to change your return – which I almost always do!
#3 – Designer-looking tote – This designer-looking tote (under $200) is durable enough for travel, and the red is finally back in stock. It’s available in several colors, and it’s one of my highest recommendations.
#4 – Amazon silver luggage set – If you want to feel extra chic, a matching set is key. These suitcases (above) look expensive but they’re not. We both own this Amazon set.
#5 – Portable charger – I kept sealing Em’s mini portable charger until I finally got my own. No long annoying cords — plugs right into your phone. The best charger I’ve tried to date.
Here are More Faves …

Left: Frame crop trench | Ivory top | Aritzia Lodge pant | Sandals | RIght: Dosey pill case
#6 – $15 travel makeup bag – I’ve gone through several of these bags, and this newest one is a favorite. It’s a little smaller than what I was using, it holds everything you need and comes with a hook so it hangs easily wherever you are.
#7 – Travel tripod – If you want great family photos, a travel tripod is a must. This one folds up, and it has a magnetic thing that easily attaches your phone, so no more pinching your fingers. This is the one I bring everywhere.
#8 – The hidden gem on the Italian Coast – Mezzatorre Hootel & Thermal Spa is one of the top three hotels we’ve ever visited. A true gem on the island of Ischia, it’s one of our highest recommendations.
#9 – Aritzia Lodge pants – I talk about these viral pants all the time – and they’re perfect any time of year. Em and I both own them and wear them on flights, during vacation and in the hotel room. Available in crepette, linen and satin, these are one of my highest recommendations!
#10 – Dosey pill case – This is my favorite recent purchase, and if you take vitamins or any other meds, you should have it too. Of course, it’s perfect for travel, but I’ve been using mine every night at home as well. The blue with gold accent is pretty, and it comes in other colors which you can see here.
More Things We Love

Left: NYC toile pj’s – pant set & short set | Right: Mark & Graham travel pouches
#11 – Travel wallet that doubles as a clutch – the chicest travel accessory. It fits everything from your passport to your phone, and doubles as a clutch in the evening.
#12 – Rolling rack upon arrival – One of my best travel tips! Ask your hotel for a rolling rack and (extra hangers) on arrival. It’s a total game changer if you want to see everything you brought and put together outfits easily and quickly.
#13 – Katie Kime Pajamas – When I spotted these cute toile pattern ones with a NYC print, I knew we’d be twinning in our hotel room. Then, I noticed Nordstrom has started carrying the line. There are a handful of cities with cute toile pattern prints — check them all out here and let me know which one is your favorite!#14 – Portable speaker – This is honestly one of my favorite things – at home or one a trip. Who doesn’t love a little music while getting ready in your hotel room
#15 – Monogrammed pouches – We love a monogram moment, and these pouches come in the cutest patterns and colors. You’ll be surprised with how much they hold – perfect for chargers and other carry-on essentials
The Last Four …

Left: Black blazer | Mother jeans | Right: Amazon padded eye mask
#16 – Hand sanitizer that actually smells good – Em and I popped into Sephora recently, and she toured me around the store sharing all her favorites. I ended up coming home with a bag full of things, including this roseweater hand sanitizer that smells so nice, and feels different than all the rest.
#17 – Eye mask – I’ve never been a eye mask person, but on a flight to London last year, Emily let me borrow Graysons ( I guess he wasn’t as excitied about it!) and talk about a game changer. As Emily says – they’re like black-out curtains for your eyes!
#18 – Airtag – If you worry about your luggage (like I do) and want extra assurance it’s actually with you on the plane, having an Apple AirTag in your bag will do the trick. We can’t imagine traveling without this.
#19 – TSA- approved travel perfume hack – I love traveling with my favorite perfume, and this one is a refillable perfume atomizer that uses a patented “pump-to-fill” system that transfers your favorite fragrance into a travel vial without any spills. I noticed Nordstrom started carrying them, and I just purchased this one. Check them all out here.
