My Daughter and I Are 30 Years Apart — And We Keep Buying the Same Things!
Recently, we had a casual family dinner. Emily and her boyfriend Grayson came over, along with Jack and his girlfriend Lauren. As you might imagine, these are the moments that matter most, and they bring much happiness to my heart. Em made her usual rounds around the house, “shopping” as she calls it, for anything she sees in the back hallway not being used. We laugh every time because she always leaves with some great finds! Last time, it was a Scalamandré pillow, a Cire Trudon candle, some marble bookends and a blanket 😂
Since then, we keep coming across those funny videos on Instagram where kids leave their parents’ house loaded up with things … and that’s what inspired this post. It got me thinking about all the things Em and I both use and genuinely love. We each have our own style, of course, but the overlap is bigger than you might think. So, today I’m sharing 20 items we both keep buying! We share ideas and sometimes influence each other, which just goes to show that age doesn’t really matter when it comes to style. Keep reading for a mix of high and low finds we both swear by. I’m certain you’ll find a thing or two worth trying!

Forever Favorites: 25 Staples I Recommend to Everyone
20 Things We Both Really Love

Left: Frame blouses | Right: Staud dress | Raffia clutch
#1 – Frame Gillian blouses – There’s a reason this is one of the best-selling blouses ever! It literally fits everyone, and it comes in several colors, including a new blue plaid
#2 Whole Bowl Recipe – I don’t usually include recipes here, although I should because I do cook most nights for myself and my husband. We try to eat healthy most nights, and this easy, vegeterian recipe is a family favorite. Sometimes we add chicken for extra protein. Side note: I do go a little easy on the yeast, since it can upset your stomach, and I think the key to this dish is really good salsa.
#3 – Gold Zara Sandals – We have a funny system when walking into our local Zara store, and we discuss our shopping path before setting out. This past week, we both purchased these gold sandals. I also bought these flats, and she picked up these crochet slingbacks — and they all look more expensive than they are! Funny enough, some favorite shoes I’ve had over the years are not designer — they come from Zara. #4 – J.Crew Raffia Clutch – This raffia clutch goes with everything and it’s the only bag you need on vacation. It’s lightweight, and takes no room in your suitcase. #5 – DedCool Laundry Detergent – I was the last to know about this trending laundry detergent. I had to look it up to find out why it’s a big deal. Apparently, it “transforms a mundane chore into a luxury fragrance experience, offering high-end, eco-friendly scents.” It’s also plant-based and non-toxic, and it leaves your clothes smelling like “fine perfume!” Even my husband loves it, and I just spotted some dryer sheets he recently bought … on his own 😉
Here’s More Faves …

Left: Katie Kime pjs | Right: Bottega bag | Amazon lookalike bag
#6 – Hart enamel earrings – On a recent trip to NYC, Em suggested we pop into the Hart store in Soho. Talk about buzzing! It was busy, and everyone was trying on all kinds of pretty things. Their enamel earrings and necklaces are getting the most attention, I purchased the blue earrings, and Em purchased the chartreuse ones. Some other items you might like include these earrings and this necklace.
#7 – Katie Kime Pajamas – When I spotted these cute toile pattern ones with a NYC print, I knew we’d be twinning in our hotel room. Then, I noticed Nordstrom has started carrying the line. There are a handful of cities with cute toile pattern prints — check them all out here and let me know which one is your favorite!#8 – Amazon Bottega bag & the real Bottega bag – These are Amazon finds that are really good, and I even wrote about some save/splurge items in this recent post. I splurged on this bag several years ago, and it has been a go-to for me. Then Emily showed up with one! Just today, someone asked me if the quality is good. My answer is yes — it’s surprisingly good, and I think it’s worth every penny. Forgot to mention that we both purchased this horizontal clutch as well.
#9 – La Roche Possay sunscreen – Hands down the best face sunscreen you’ll ever try (and the reviews agree). Everyone in France carries the mini bottle in their bag 😉 #10 – Aritzia Lodge pants – These are the viral pants I talk about all the time. We both wear them at home and also when traveling. These pants are one of my highest recommendations!
More Things We Love

Left: Black blazer | Mother jeans | Right: Amazon sandals | The designer ones
#11 – Amazon beaded sandals – Last year, I was dreaming about the splurge Gianvito gold sandals and I sent Em a photo of them on my foot at the Saks NYC store. That very same day, the Amazon ones arrived on her doorstep! I didn’t buy them, but I immediately went home and ordered the flat sandals. Fast forward to this year, and though I splurged on the heels, I’m still wearing the Amazon ones on every vacation.
#12 – Diptyque handsoap – This hand soap feels luxurious, smells amazing and looks pretty on your counter top. I’ve given these as gifts, along with this Diptyque scented oval that everyone loves to receive. #13 – Mother jeans – These are the Mother jeans we wear all the time. Love the faded blue wash. They look good in the summer with sandals, and equally as good in the winter with boots. #14- Rouge 540 perfume – We both claim this as our signature scent. It’s truly the best-smelling perfume, and it lives up to the hype. We get compliments every day — no joke. I think it’s worth the splurge! #15 – Dermaplaning tool – I had no idea Emily was also shaving her face until I realized she swiped the device from me! You might be able to relate. Anyway, now we both use it regularly, and it’s another one I highly suggest trying.
The Last Five …

Left: Reformation stripe cashmere sweater, new colors here | Right: Cyklar body soap
#16 – Reformation striped sweater – If you’re looking for a cute sweater that works both over your shoulders or layered over a white tee, THIS is the one to consider. It’s super soft, and you’ll never want to take it off!
#17 – Cyklar body soap – This went viral on Tik Tok for a reason. Then one arrived on my doorstep, and now I know why. It smells amazing, and makes my skin feel hydrated compared to normal body washes. Worth a try. #18 – Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Powder – A makeup artist once told me this is like an “Instagram filter” for your face. I’ve been using this foryears, and I’ll never go back #19 – Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation – This newly formulated foundation is SO good, and while Emily is still using up her last bottle – I’m suggesting she run and buy the new one. I didn’t think it could get better – but it really is. Your skin will look hydrated, and flawless. Be sure and use this primer under – I think it’s what makes it even better. #20 – Italy 1900 book from Amazon – We first spotted this book sitting on the gorgeous table in our hotel room, along with a pretty little bowl of peaches! We both went home and immediately ordered it — it’s the perfect coffee table book.
