How to build a Pre-Fall Capsule Wardrobe, Part 2

Add trendy, stylish pieces that take your wardrobe to the next level

How do you build a modern, pre-fall capsule wardrobe and then make it even better? By stocking your closet with a combination of well-fitting essentials and trendy pieces that you add each season! Right now, fall is upon us (in the fashion world anyway), and the cool, trendy pieces are surfacing. Keep your eye out for anything chocolate brown, leather pieces, statement jewelry, and so much more. Sooo … what to add to your pre-fall wardrobe? Basically anything you absolutely love and are excited to wear!

With everything you need available in your closet, you’ll have extra confidence when getting dressed. Trust me on this one — it feels REALLY GOOD when your outfits come together easily. But, this requires thoughtful planning and smart purchasing, and it also doesn’t happen overnight (darn). Today’s post follows “Your Pre-Fall Capsule Is Here: All New,” which shows what every great wardrobe needs: sophisticated, elevated, modern pieces that when combined, make the most stylish outfits ever!

So, how to incorporate those trendy, stylish pieces that take your wardrobe to the next level? It’s easy! Pick up a few pre-fall items that you like, and that will add that something “extra” to your collection. These are often the items we actually buy first because, after all, they’re way more fun to purchase! Keep reading for some new and exciting arrivals that pair perfectly with the essentials you hopefully already own.

Shades of brown are everywhere this season

Talk about a luxurious color that makes everything look expensive! For pre-fall, look for coats, jackets and blazers to add to your rotation. Don’t be afraid to wear brown with black, all white or shades of cream. And you can always pair it with denim, like below. Brown is a rich color, and the good pieces seem to sell quickly. So, start looking and add piece or two this fall!

Leather: another easy way to elevate your outfits

Leather (and faux leather) continue to trend, and talk about an easy way to make your outfits that much cooler! Look for blazers, trench coats and skirts. I continue to be amazed at how good faux leather looks these days. It’s always soft and drapey, and most of the time passes for the real thing. Coated denim is another way to get the look for a lot less, and I just noticed these best-selling jeans are now available in black coated denim.

Vests are trending!

Vests are the trending piece for fall, and the styling options are endless! I love the ones I’ve seen at J.Crew and Vince, both pictured below.

Not-basic shoes

Believe it or not, one of the hottest shoe brands that hardly stays in stock is by Amina Muddai. These shoes flew off the shelves during the early days of the pandemic, and now the influence is everywhere. While most of us might not have the opportunity to wear these shoes, the point is that adding something fun that you just love will make you feel extra stylish and modern!

Stripes

I love anything with stripes! Striped button ups are timeless, and always remind me of French girl style. Make them look more updated by wearing an oversized blazer and trouser.  Here are a few favorites below!

Cool sweatshirts

One of my favorite websites, Sheerluxe, just did a round up of oversized sweatshirts. Several caught my eye, including this one from Abercrombie. There are many ways to style a cool graphic sweatshirt, from denim to a midi-length skirt to leggings. I also like it when they’re a little more dressed up. Sweatshirts by Anine Bing are favorites — they run big, so size down.
