Popular Items I Tossed — And What I Swapped For Them: Part 2
#1 Barrel Jeans Are Here to Stay
Reiss coat | TWP shirt | Mother Half-Pipe jeans | Slingbacks | Bracelet | Bag
Style notes: If there’s one style of jean that will instantly make your entire wardrobe that much cooler, it’s barrel jeans. They’re surprisingly easy to wear, and if you’re 5’4″ and under, there are petite options. Some styles, like the Paige Ariella and the Madewell Barrels are toned way down, which is the trend as we head into fall. They look great with pointy elongated toe boots, flats, low profile sneakers and, of course, slingbacks.
#2 Long and Loose
Trench coat | White tee | Gray sweater | Mother Bookie | Sneakers | Dior scarf | Loewe bag | Earrings
Style notes: I’m noticing that jeans aren’t as full as they were last year around this time, which is nice for some of us. Another trend I’m following is that the looser, long length jeans (like the ones above) are extra chic if they’re puddled over your shoes. We love a slim pointy toe shoe, and I have my eye on these Totemes … and this go-with-everything slingback.
#3 Light Washes
Trench | Denim jacket | Paige Anessa jeans | Gucci bag | Flats
Style notes: Depending on the weather where you live, always consider an écru jean. For some reason, it looks a little more updated and stylish. That said, white always works, and it instantly makes everything feel fresh and summery. I wear both all the time, and they’re kind of a non-negotiable in my own wardrobe.
#4 Slim Bootcut
Trench | Light blue sweater | Rag & Bone jeans | Prada slingbacks | Gucci bag | Earrings
Style notes: Rises are heading back down. In fact, these jeans (above) with a 10″ rise (more of a mid-rise) are one of the best-selling jeans at Rag & Bone. I just noticed they’re back in this all-time favorite light wash. When styled correctly, they have a Parisian feel that works nicely with other wardrobe staples you likely have, like a slim v-neck wool sweater, a classic white tee and a slim loafer.
#5 Dark Indigo Rinses
Ivory coat | Bomber jacket | Rinse wash jeans, more sizes here | Earrings | Valentino bag | Slingbacks
Style notes: If you love a clean, polished look, you could consider adding a dark indigo wash to your denim collection. Try styling them with relaxed blazers, pretty blouses and chic knit wear, and you’ll feel sophisticated and a little dressed up.
#6 Slim, Straight-leg Jeans
Bomber jacket | Leopard tee | Jeans | Earrings | Emme Parsons boots | Savette clutch
Style notes: This is the most classic style of jean to have in your wardrobe, and they’re easier to style since they work with pretty much every shoe. Try a washed black color like the one above, or a nice medium blue pair — you’ll wear them all the time!
