The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is almost here … and, if you’re planning to shop it, here’s my secret strategy you need to know!

Needless to say, I kind of know a thing or two when it comes to shopping the Nordstrom sale 😉 Consider me your most trusted source on how to navigate the sale, and get the best of the fall season — highly edited, on trend, and super stylish — before it’s all gone!
Right now, everyone is talking about the sale! It’s an exciting time, but there are a few things I’ve learned over the years, including this all-important recommendation: make careful and thoughtful purchases. Keep in mind, this is an extra busy time at Nordstrom, and there are many brand new, regular-priced items and collections that arrive by the minute. So, the best pieces fly out the door — whether they’re on sale or not.
So … what’s my secret strategy?
Trust me on this one: Focus on the hot items that are going to sell out quickly. This is my number one strategy that has worked for all my clients over the years. If you wait, you won’t get what you want!

This year, burgundy is the trending color, and all shades are a go! Starting with shoes, look at these cute designer-inspired sneakers and these gorgeous slingbacks. You will also need a burgundy coat like this AllSaints leather one. I tried it on and it’s a amazing. There’s also this pretty sandal, this cool bag and this L’Agence blazer that will all sell out quickly.
Coats and jackets are always a top pick, and this bright blue coat was love at first sight! Pro tip: a double-faced wool coat is something every wardrobe should have, and this Max Mara and this Reiss camel one are both great options. Last year, these sold out immediately. For a more casual style, this Barbour barn jacket is a smart pick — and it’ll sell out quickly too. Same with AllSaints leather jackets (they finally offered this best-selling one in black). Keep in mind, they run a bit small.
Everyone loves denim, and this year the selection is amazing. Look for longer lengths, like these from Paige and these from Frame. If you love Mother denim, check out the Hustler (their best-selling fit and my most-worn style) and this new one that I’m wearing below. And, since trousers are the trending style, I added this pair and this Vince pair to my wishlist!

I’m also eyeing two blazers: This Veronica Beard dickey (wearing below), which looks great with denim. Since Veronica Beard always sells out during the sale, grab this navy one (with the matching pant) that looks like a designer piece.
Shoes look incredible this year, and I was so excited when I spotted slingbacks and pointy toe flats on the sale. Look at this Veronica Beard one, this leopard one by Paige, and this gorgeous brown suede one by Vince. Boots are also a best-selling category, and you’ll wear this Veronica Beard one all season long. Pro tip: Everyone needs a sneaker, and these by Rag & Bone are really comfortable and popular.
I always review fine jewelry collections, and this Bony Levy ring and bracelets are standouts. This little gold pendant necklace caught my eye, and so did this diamond necklace that will go with all your jewelry. Also, you can never go wrong with a Michele watch — I’ve had mine for over ten years and still love it!
Finally, beauty is another category I always recommend. This year, I spotted this Westman Atelier set, which is new to the sale. I also was thrilled that the fragrance Delina is on the sale in this trio. Every year, Jo Malone has candle sets that sell out. They’re perfect to give as presents because everyone loves them! In your gifting strategy, treat yourself, and buy a few sets for your friends

Don’t forget to pick up the basics, even if they’re not on sale 🤭
I know, I know. Sometimes the best-selling basics aren’t on sale. But, they’re still the building blocks to every single outfit. So, even if they’re at regular price, the strategy is: stock up! I’m talking about the Veronica Beard Dickey jacket, this classic silk blouse, stylish black pants like these, and this black scarf. All are important pieces to own so you can put together stylish outfits!

6 Insider Tips for Shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale from a Former Nordstrom Stylist
Tip 1: Buy online the moment you can shop! So much more efficient this way — avoid the crowds and get it fast. Plus, you’ll see everything, since many items will not be available in store.
Tip 2: Consider paying $20 extra for expedited shipping. This bumps your order up in the queue and increases your chances of getting what you want. Faster. Trust me on this one, you’ll be sorry if you don’t.
Tip 3: Stock up on basics. Everyone is saying this, but it’s true. Get your denim, leather jackets, coats, shoes, booties and makeup now!
Tip 4: Schedule a Personal Double Points Day. Earn 2x the points towards Nordstrom notes – you’ll be glad you did 🙂
Tip 5: Know your cardholder status. This lets you know which day you can shop the sale – and remember, it starts at 12:01 midnight, so depending on your time zone, adjust accordingly! For example, on the west coast that means you can start shopping at 9:01 pm on July 7th!
Tip 6: What to do when things sell out? I always suggest putting a wrong size of the item you want in your shopping cart. Then, continue checking your shopping cart regularly (every day is not a bad idea). Since inventory is always changing, there’s a good chance your size will pop up! If you have the Nordstrom app, you can turn on notifications if your size comes back.
