This past weekend, I spent a fun day in NYC shopping all my favorite stores and doing a little “blog research” to share with all of you. Makeup wasn’t on my list, but I was lured by a really sweet (and convincing) salesperson. Next thing I knew, a beauty artist was working a little magic on my face … after a long day of shopping, no less. I explained that bed was my next stop, but that didn’t stop her from doing a full makeup look! Turns out she was a celebrity makeup artist who knows all the tricks that help women look their best. Lucky me!

Today’s post is about all the beauty essentials makeup artists swear by, including a very important step that many of us skip. If you strive for a luminous makeup look, then your skincare routine is just as important as the makeup you choose. Start with skin prep

As the years go by, our skin gets more dry, making hydration even that much more important. The celebrity makeup artist spent quite a bit of time applying these three products on me: primer, serum, and moisturizer. It felt almost like a mini-facial! When she finished, I looked in the mirror and was stunned at how my skin was glowing. Below are products I’ve tried and recommend if you want truly radiant skin.

 

#1 Lancome Génifique Face Serum – silky, super-hydrating and lightweight, this serum makes you look refreshed when you’re tired. I keep one in my purse for an instant pick me up

#2 Armani Beauty Crema Nera – a serum that helps brighten and hydrate skin. I left with a sample and now it’s on my wishlist

#3 Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – this moisturizer smooths, softens and hydrates, all in one

#4 Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30 – a top seller for the British luxury skincare brand Elemis — with good reason

#5 Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer – another favorite I’ve used for years. It makes your foundation go on so smoothly!

 

Everyday Beauty Favorites

#1 Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm – this nourishing, rich balm melts away makeup, doubles as a mask and leaves your skin absolutely glowing

#2 Lancome Eye Makeup Remover – gently removes waterproof and water resistant eye makeup, great for sensitive eyes

#3 Kiehl’s Vitamin C Serum – for those of us with large pores, this is the serum for you. Diminishes fine lines and plumps with hyaluronic acid

#4 Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Body Lotion – rich but not greasy, this all-over lotion has cocoa butter to moisturize very dry areas, like elbows, knees and feet

 

Foundation & Concealer

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is one of my highest recommendations, and I’ve used it for almost a decade! After the makeup artist color-matched my skin, it was confirmed that I was wearing the right color (5.5). If you wear foundation, this is one of the best — and it wins all kinds of awards, with good reason.

 

#1 Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – you can apply it on the lighter side, or build it up for more coverage. I wear this foundation every single day in shade 5.5

#2 Luminous Silk Concealer – visibly brightens and smooths your under eye area. And, if you combine it with a small drop of serum (below) before applying, it hydrates the under eye area as well. I use the shade 5.25

#3 – Crema Nera Eye Serum – its silky texture is perfect for the delicate eye area, and if you mix a tiny drop with your concealer, it won’t settle in your lines. I purchased this one — it’s so good

 

Everyday Makeup

 

#1 Bobbi Brown Blush – this two-in-one cream color works for both your cheeks and lips — super handy

#2 Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Stick – a best-selling “swipe and go” cream stick that makes eye shadow application easy. Layer and blend with different finishes. My two favorite shades are Dusty Mauve and Golden Pink

#3 Bobbi Brown Waterproof Liner – high intensity, all day coverage with no smudging or fading. I use shade Blackout

#4 Lancome Définicils Lengthening & Defining Mascara – lengthening, defining and natural-looking, this is a fave among makeup artists

#5 Armani Beauty Lip Gloss – Add a soft pink lip liner with this gloss for a classic, everyday look. I went home with shade 05 Berry Beam

#6 Anastasia Brow Whiz – helps outline and define eyebrows for a polished look. Includes a spoolie brush for blending
