I went trend shopping in NYC: Check out my insider finds!
A couple of weeks ago, I took a work trip to NYC with my So Susie team for some meetings, business brainstorming, blog research and people watching. These trips are fun and inspiring, and I always return home on idea overload! Some might ask, what exactly is “blog research” and why do you do it? Well, trend shopping, or “blog research” as I call it, is where I check out all our favorite stores to see the merchandise in person.
But first: my authenticity promise! As we all know, shopping online isn’t necessarily easy, and seeing the product firsthand helps me select the items I’m going to feature on the blog. I always strive to remain authentic and honest, so the pieces that end up here are ones I’ve either purchased, helped someone with, tried on, or want to try. This is my “authenticity promise” to you!
It was a very successful trend shopping trip, and I’m excited to share my insider finds. Today’s post features shopping highlights, tips on what to buy from your favorite brands, and a few recent purchases. We covered A LOT of ground in four days, and got some helpful insider tips by popping in and asking the salespeople and managers some questions about fit, top sellers, etc. I hope you find this post helpful when it comes to your next online purchases!
P.S. Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about LTK, and exactly what it is. The Dallas-based company was founded by Amber and Baxter Box in 2011 as a way to help bloggers monetize their content. Fast forward to now, and the LTK shopping app is the biggest player in this space. It’s the number one most downloaded shopping app, and it makes it very easy to shop your favorite creators’ content. In addition to this blog (which is also powered by LTK), you can find my LTK shop here, where I post exclusive content, not found on the blog.
Where we stayed in NYC: Crosby Street Hotel
The Crosby Street Hotel
The Crosby Street Hotel is part of the Firmdale Hotel Group, which has a collection of hotels in NYC and London. After staying at both Number Sixteen and Charlotte Street in London, I can tell you with absolute certainty that these boutique hotels are the perfect lodging for your trip. I’m heading to London in a few weeks, and I plan on trying the Ham Yard Hotel — stay tuned for my review.
A few noteworthy meals near The Crosby: the bar at Balthazar (great for solo travelers), La Esquina (LOVED!), and Joe and the Juice for Tunacado (their super popular spicy tuna sandwich)
Insider Finds at Frame denim
I always stop by the Frame store both in LA and NYC, and right now everything is looking SO good! I’m loving all the new color combos, and I think it’s one of the best merchandised stores out there. There are new colors (and sleeve lengths) in this Gillian blouse, and they’re all pretty. I just spotted this new wash in the Jetset jean, and it’s perfect for traveling. On my recent visit, I picked up this shirt which you can wear has most seasons. See below for a few other favorites.
Susie: Trench coat | Frame Le Pixie | Boots | YSL bag | Frame faves: Gillian blouse | Crop cardigan | Slip dress | Ring | Jetset jeans | Black coated denim | Stripe sweatshirt | SW boot | Loewe bag
J.Crew on Madison Avenue
J.Crew continues to feature stylish clothes — I get so excited when a new collection drops! The Madison Avenue store was buzzing with excitement, and it was very well merchandised. Emily walked in and headed straight toward the striped lady jacket (which keeps selling out), and quickly scored her size. I don’t think she realized I own it too 😉 Below are some brand new-ins for you to consider.
Susie: Lady jacket | Paige Claudine jeans | Stuart Weitzman boots | YSL bag | Ganni t-shirt, similar | Right: Striped lady jacket | Feather shirt | Sherpa lady jacket | Green sweater | Faux leather dress | Feather bag | Red bag | Boots | Ivory coat | Trouser jeans | Red crop puffer
Cinq a Sept store
A highlight of the trip was hosting a meet & greet in the beautiful Cinq a Sept store in Soho. I’ve long admired the brand, and years ago I heard the founder Jane speak at a Nordstrom event. The clothes are beautiful and I own a handful of pieces, including their best-selling Khloe Blazer that everyone loves. Below is what’s new and catching my eye, and a few insider finds.
Susie: Shirt jacket | Striped tee | Jeans | Sandals | Right: Faux leather jacket | Paris sweatshirt | Embellished cardigan | Feather cardigan | Faux leather black dress | Burgundy dress | Silver clutch | Silver sparkle bag | Red blazer | Coated denim | Earrings | Snake print sandals
Ba&sh
A friend told me to check out this store on Madison Avenue, and I’m SO glad I did! We both purchased this jacket, which is somewhat surprising given our four inch height difference 😳 Now I have my eye on this best-selling cardigan, which we also both tried on. I couldn’t decide which color to buy so I’m still thinking about it.
Light blue cardigan | Cream | Black | Red | Tweed | Black Lady jacket | Jeans | Black Bottega bag | White shirt | Brown leather jacket | Jeans | Blue Bottega bag | Brown boots
Stay tuned for part two … but here’s a sneak peek!
The Gucci store in Soho is worth a visit. I spotted these boots that I’m still dreaming about. I also specifically wanted to see these new loafers and bag, and they did not disappoint!
The L’Agence store on Madison Avenue was another fave. I loved their new bright pink collection, specifically this dress. Also liked all their shoes, especially this leopard sandal
Bergdorf’s was my favorite store of the entire trip. I could have stayed there for hours. Next time it’ll be first on the list!
Elyse Walker on Madison Avenue recently opened. I saw these smaller Naghedi bags and ordered this one from Nordstrom
I’ve followed the store Kirna Zabete on Instagram for quite some time, so this was also tops on the list. It was like a little jewel box! I found myself trying on this feather dress (already sold out) that I purchased in green for the LTK event.
