Here they are: 10 stylish fall outfits!

As we all get ready for fall, I’m excited to share some easy styling tips, my favorite fall fashion and home trends, and the items that caught my eye from a recent trip to New York City. So, here they are: 10 stylish fall outfits that you can wear for any occasion. I hope you like them!

Since many of you are new around here, I thought I’d do a proper introduction 😊

I’m Susie, and I’ve been a retail girl since high school, working at Nordstrom in various roles including a decade-long stint as a buyer and another decade as a personal stylist. What I’ve discovered is that we all have the same concerns: does my bra fit properly, should I be using Vitamin C serum, am I too old to wear that, how can I not look tired, can I wear ripped jeans … the list goes ON AND ON! I feel that it’s my duty to share my experiences with you, as well as those of thousands of women I’ve had personal conversations with in the dressing room over the years.

I have a passion for the business of fashion, and for helping women get dressed every day. And, I’ve had many interesting meetings with the creators and founders of worldwide brands who have given me an inside perspective that I LOVE sharing with you through this blog!

When I started my website, So Susie, it was initially to share street style inspiration so we could all get ideas on how to put together great outfits. But, it has evolved into much more than that. Now I have combined the skills I learned as a buyer, along with dressing room experiences, to share the latest trends and too-good-to-miss items that are bound to sell out. And, how to put them all together to make great outfits! Thank you so much for following along, I’m really glad you’re here! 💕🌸

It’s brown everything this season

Theory suede trench | Theory pants | Veronica Beard cami | Sandals | YSL bag

I can’t remember a time in my entire retail career that I’ve seen so many gorgeous brown pieces available. Brown is an elevated color that looks good on almost everyone! When I popped into the Frame store in NYC this past week, the color combo of brown, soft ivory, faded blue and camel caught by eye. Sophisticated and very wearable. Some favorite pieces include this Frame t-shirt, skirt, mini-boot pant and favorite blouse. Theory also is looking very stylish, and this flowy trench (an all-time favorite) is now available in brown. They also have a suede trench (see photo above) and matching pant which are part of the F&F sale happening now.

Stylish skirts are trending

J.Crew sweater and matching skirt | Cult Gaia sandals | Gold clutch

For a long time, it has been all about the slip dress … but now skirts are taking over! Look at the affordable version I’m wearing above from J.Crew — I paired it with the matching cashmere sweater. I wore this combo out to dinner in NYC with a white tank and flat sandals. I love this outfit so much, I’m taking it to Dallas this week as an option to wear to LTK meetings! Other skirts I love include this Vince one and this houndstooth one, and of course the J.Crew version above. Grab one now, they’re stylish and versatile.

It’s coat season

Max Mara coat | Frame flare jeans | SW boots | Mansur Gavriel bag

It’s coat season (even if your weather isn’t cooperating yet!) so now is the time to grab a coat! The splurge one I’m wearing is from Max Mara, and one of the most important details to look for is that it’s double-faced wool. It’s one layer of fabric with two wool sides, and the result is an unlined, elegant coat that looks WAY more expensive than it is. For example, this coat at Mango (which I purchased last year) is double faced wool. My alterations friend (who has worked on a lot of Max Mara coats over the years) asked me if it was a Max Mara! Theory does a fantastic job, look at this longer coat (25% off) and this shorter one too. Also, Reiss is another favorite brand — look at this and this, as well as Fleurette (like this one). I could go on and on 😉

Style boards … my happy place

Left style board: Trench coat | Scarf | Sweater | Jeans | Flats | Bag | Earrings

Middle style board: Navy trench coat | Stripe sweater | Jeans | Red tote | White boots | Earrings

Right style board: Trench coat | Scarf | T-shirt | Jeans | Flats | Bag

I LOVE creating outfits on style boards, and playing around with different combinations in Canva is truly my happy place! I even get inspired for my own outfits and end up purchasing off my own style boards. Remember, although I prefer designer bags, you can easily make substitutes. These are for outfit inspo, and you can easily get the look for less!

A special dress you just love!

Feather dress | Sandals | Necklaces: here and here | Charm

Every now and then you just have to get a dress you absolutely love, especially if you have an extra special event coming up. I splurged on this feather number, and it was so comfortable and I felt a little extra in it! For the upcoming Dallas LTK red carpet event, I did another splurge on this gorgeous green dress. Others I considered were this one and this one – all really special!

Look stylish while traveling: my go-to outfit

Left: Zip-up Fleece | Leggings | Dolce Vita sneaker | Luggage | Tote | Right: Half-zip Sweater | Leggings | Sambas

Many of us are traveling these days, and being comfortable and also stylish on the airplane feels really good. One of my favorite pieces is the Jetset jean by Frame. Currently part of the F&F sale, it’s a pull on jean with no hardware, and it’s available in several colors (a new light wash) and lengths. I’ve tested them both and love them. Check out this Reels video where I share some styling options.

I also LOVE this fleece blazer by Frank & Eileen, it’s super comfortable and you’ll feel a little more polished. If you want to be a little sportier, Varley is a favorite brand (wearing above). Just yesterday, I popped into my local Nordstrom store, and my friends in the active department said the collection is flying out the door! I can see why. Check out this new coat in light blue or brown, this cozy 1/2 zip and this brown legging.

Everyday casual outfit

Camel sweater and matching skirt | Dolce Vita sneakers | Naghedi tote

Having a few pieces you can rely on that are comfy and casual makes looking stylish a little easier during the week. I LOVE this matching set – it’s super cute with sneakers and it can easily be dressed up a little with a cool boot. Other camel pieces I love include this Rails striped cardigan, this cashmere oversized crew sweater and this oversized cardigan. All versatile and perfect for fall!

Two LBDs that will always have you covered!

Left: ALC Renzo dress | Sandals | Sparkle bag | Right: J.Crew Lady jacket | Vince slip dress | Gold sandals | Dior bag

I’ve talked about these dresses a lot recently, and I’m sorry if I sound like a broken record! But they’re so good, and I know first hand that they work for almost every occasion. The ALC Renzo dress (on sale at Saks) is flattering, elegant and the cutaway neckline is really flattering on the arms. I helped my sister-in-law with the gorgeous lavender color a few months ago as a Mother of the Bride dress. She looked beautiful and stylish! There’s also this new halter version that I saw in New York and loved!

Every one of my Nordstrom stylist friends has the Vince slip dress, and you can wear it with everything from denim jackets and sneakers to strappy sandals for a night out, and even boots and a leather jacket in the winter. I love the Vince one, and the J.Crew one that’s under $100 is also so good.

Business casual outfits

Left: Houndstooth jacket | Frame trousers | Anthropologie bag | Sandals | Right: Cinq à Sept blazer | Spanx Split Hem pants | Chloe tote | Sandals

Whether you’re going to the office or a casual daytime meeting, having a go-to black pant is key. I love the ones by Spanx, and I wrote about them in this recent post. Another favorite is this Frame one that I’ve been wearing on repeat lately. They’re so good, and everyone loves them!

Favorites under $100

Left: $69 sweater | Jeans | SW boots | Bag, similar | Coat, similar | Right: Sweater | Jeans | Puffer coat | Graphic tee | Scarf | Tote | Bag | Sneaker | Sunglasses | Earrings

I’m often asked for more affordable options, and every week on my LTK page I share favorites under $100. Check it all out here!

What to wear if you’re going out

Khloe blazer | Coated denim, similar | Sandals | Cami | Bag, similar

A few pieces you can always rely on, like coated denim, a good blazer and strappy sandals, makes going out even that much more fun! I love this Cinq à Sept blazer – it comes in black and ivory, and it’s perfect all year ‘round. The sleeves are scrunched and it’s nice and relaxed, making it ideal to wear with denim. Coated denim is also a favorite this time of year — check out the new Frame pair and this pair from Joe’s too. Silky blouses work all seasons as well, and this Frame Gillian style is available in so many colors right now. Check them out here and here.
