These are the 7 shoes you need this fall
Every September, as the season starts to change, we all find ourselves in a shoe quandary. Summer sandals no longer feel right, but we’re not quite ready for full-on boots. This leaves many of us, including myself, unsure about which shoes to wear with our fall outfits. We need an “in-between” shoe, one that transitions easily from summer to fall … think sneakers, mules and loafers that work now, and will keep looking good as we move further into the season later.
In order to solve this problem, I was determined to find every transitional shoe you need for all your fall outfits. This includes everything from boots and clogs to sneakers and loafers, as well as the most stylish shoes for all your dressy events! These are the 7 shoes you need this fall, and it’s all right here in this post. I’m certain you’ll find a few you love!

Sneakers, of course 😉

For the last few years, I’ve lived in sneakers. They’re not only stylish (a must in my book!), but they’re practical too. In other words, they work any time of year for travel, daily wear, and even for going out (sometimes). They’re also ideal when it’s raining. Thank goodness sneakers are still trending because they are my go-to’s!!
These Alexander McQueens have a wedge which makes them a little edgy, which is always fun. I also love the French brand Veja, and sometimes they’re hard to find since they sell out quickly. For a reasonable price point, you can’t beat these by Sam Edelman and these by Dolce Vita. For a cool girl option, everyone is wearing Adidas Sambas or Gazelles and New Balance. All super chic, and practical at the same time.
White shoes

A white boot is on my list this season (love this one), because white shoes and accessories look so cool! The street style photo above is one of my favorites. Whether you’re going for a boot or white loafer, you’ll wear them all the time — trust me. I included white loafers in the latest fall capsule, click here to see.
Flats, loafers and ballet shoes

Loafers continue to be the trending shoe to own, and they’re pretty much the perfect shoe to wear when transitioning seasons (spring or fall). I love these iconic Gucci ones — they’re a splurge, but you’ll wear them on repeat. I have my eye on this brand new Gucci loafer — look closely at the embellishment around the gold horse bit … so clever! If you want to get the look for less, check out this one, which is Gucci-inspired. Lately, I’ve noticed ballet shoes are back with a vengeance, and they’re also another option this time of year. See below for a few more favorites!

Pumps and slingbacks

You gotta love a good simple pump, and there are so many great options right now! My favorite is this Prada one I’ve worn for years, and it’s still a go-to shoe. Slingbacks are a current style to own, and you can’t go wrong with either a neutral pair or a great classic black – in any height. Two affordable options I like and own myself include this Sam Edelman (looks designer) and this Chanel-inspired one.

Ankle boots and knee boots

Every year, I like to update my boot collection with a new bootie, and this year I have my eye on this one. For dressier boots, the Stuart Weitzman ones pictured above have been amazing and I’ll be wearing them again this year. For casual styles, I still love the Rag & Bone Rover bootie. The heel height is perfect and you’ll feel comfortable all day long. And my favorite boot from last year that I’ll wear again this season is the cool-girl Toteme one – LOVE! The newest trend in boots this season is a knee style like this one. Grab your boots early in the season, as this allows for a longer wearing time!

Black sandals
Left: J.Crew cashmere cardigan | Trousers | Vince Pia wedge | Chloe tote | Right: J.Crew cardigan | Jeans | Gucci sandals | YSL tote
A black sandal that covers your foot a little more than a thin, strappy one feels like the perfect transitional shoe. And, if the heel is a wedge or a block heel, then it’s easier to wear with casual outfits and get a little height at the same time (if you need it) 😉 The Vince wedge sandals I’m wearing above left are SO incredibly comfortable, you might want to try them. The Gucci sandals (above right) are another shoe that is perfect for most months of the year, and you’ll love the gold details — they elevate your look without being over the top.
Strappy sandals

Strappy sandals are a year ’round staple. I know they aren’t practical for rainy or snowy days, but the rest of the time, they work just fine 🙂 One or two neutral pairs will go with many outfits, and they also work nicely with both dresses and denim. Right now, look at metallics like these. And these Schutz ones have been my go-to for the last couple of years!
