The September shopping list: What to add!

September is an exciting time, with a new season providing endless street style inspo and back-to-back fashion weeks. It’s the perfect trend-spotting opportunity to see what’s new and what we might want to add to our own collections. Also, September is the time to make your fall purchases. Why? Because it ensures you get maximum wearing time for the months ahead. Read on to see the 7 things to add to your fall wardrobe, plus a little street style inspo!

P.S.  These are challenging times here in Portland, and our hearts are heavy watching the devastating fires in our state (as well as in California). No matter where you live, I’m sending you all love and warm thoughts today and everyday. Writing this blog is just my personal escape, and a place for me to provide a lighthearted distraction for you. Take care of yourselves and others. xo

#1 Faux leather anything

Nanushka is the brand that has caught the eye of all the fashion girls, and I can see why. Their gorgeous vegan leather is so soft, and one would never know it’s not real leather! Plus, the prices on faux or vegan leather are amazing, allowing us to happily pick up a piece or two. I’ve loved this black leather blazer, and the $118 price tag makes it worth every penny. I also got these cropped leather pants by Paige, which I plan to wear with everything from strappy sandals to sneakers. Check out these new picks below and consider adding a piece or two to your wardrobe. It will elevate every basic you own!

#2 Loafers and Mules

Loafers and Mules have taken a back seat due to warmer weather and sandal season, but now that its getting cooler, it’s the perfect shoe to transition into fall. Of course, there are several designer styles to consider, like these classic Guccis or these by Prada. I love this Tory Burch style, and saved some money by purchasing this Sam Edelman/Gucci lookalike. It’s super versatile and very comfy!

#3 Animal print

1. | 2. | 3. | 4. | 5. | 6.

Animal print is always in style, so consider it a neutral, go-with-everything piece. Leopard, tiger, zebra … anything goes! I love this dress, this easy-to-wear clog, and this sweater cardigan. Add a small touch like this bag, or go all-in with a statement piece like this one.

#4 Sweater Weather

The brighter, the better.

We all love cozy sweaters, and this time of year, the options are endless! Look for polo styles, shorter cardigans worn alone, anything with puff sleeves, bright colors and even basic cashmere. The J.Crew cashmere crew tees come in the prettiest colors, and are perfect for most seasons. This polo style caught my eye, and so did this style and this one too.

#5 Straight-leg denim

After my son pointed out my skinny jeans were out of style (!), I started re-thinking all my denim. While I’m still holding on to my beloved skinnies, I feel way more stylish when wearing an ankle length, straight-leg style. Look for mid-rises starting at 9″ and up. You’ll love these by AGOLDE, Mother Dazzler and also the Frame Le High. Go with a lighter to medium wash, or with the newest washed black, like this one and this one.

#6 Blazers, blazers, blazers

Consider a blazer to be more like a jacket. Make sure to find one that’s slightly oversized, or that has a cool detail like the iconic Veronica Beard Dickey jackets (read all about those here). Then style your blazer with cool denim, and add a cozy knit scarf for a super stylish and casual look!

#7 Statement coat

A head-turning topper will make literally every outfit.

Coats complete every outfit, so find one or two you absolutely love and wear them all the time. After all, a coat is the piece most people see when we’re out and about!
