How to wear the pvc trend

Theory silk trench |  white Tibi dress |  Gucci scarf |  Staud bag |  Gucci sunnies | Jeffrey Campbell wedge

One of the most interesting looks to surface in recent months is the plastic, pvc trend.  When I first noticed it early last year while reviewing the Chanel spring runway collections, I have to admit, it didn’t exactly win me over.  The Chanel shows were filled with pvc hats, coats and boots (and a little tweed of course), and I  wondered who would wear these things, and how could they be comfortable?  Fast forward a few months and as you can see in the above photo, I found not one but two items with the interesting clear plastic.

I added these run-around-the-city, Jeffrey Campbell wedge sandals to my wardrobe this summer and they have literally worked with most everything in my closet.  It’s going to be sad to pack them away, but I have my eye on these pumps that will work right into fall, and these booties are a less-expensive (and slightly edgier) version of the Chanel boots seen coming down the runway.

This tote bag stopped me in my tracks while visiting the Nordstrom Downtown Seattle store.  It’s by the LA brand Staud, and is the brainchild of two designers who were previously at Reformation. It comes in several colors, like this bright pink and this basic black.  A similar version at half the price is this one by Vince Camuto.

And of course, the bigger question is: will PVC move into the next season? I have a hunch we will be seeing this trend on the streets of NYC during fashion week, happening right now!

I’m curious. What do you think about the pvc or transparent trend?
