The 7 Jacket Trends I’m Actually Wearing This Year
Recently, a good friend asked me this question: where do I start when refreshing a wardrobe? Well, I immediately had a suggestion: start with the single most important piece for creating outfits — the item we stylists refer to as the “third piece.” So, what is the “third piece?” Well, it’s the one extra layer that transforms a basic look into something polished. Lately, I’ve seen this vintage Ralph Lauren aesthetic everywhere, and it’s a reminder of why a great jacket is the one of the best investments you can make.
Today’s post is about the best spring jackets out there, and trends I’ll actually be wearing. You’ll find everything from this one under $100 to a soft wool blazer to a chic nylon jacket. All chic and easy, they are truly the secret to a stylish, put-together, confident look. Based on my personal experience, you should own several different styles for maximum versatility. Also, jackets tend to stay relevant longer, and they make an impact on every outfit. In other words, they’re worth the investment! Keep reading to see the 7 jackets I’m using to pull my spring outfits together. Trust me, you can’t go wrong with any of these.

Goodbye Basic White Tee: Here’s the Cooler Alternative
Yes, These Jeans Really Do Fit Everyone … Here’s the Proof)!
I Stopped Buying Black Shoes … Here’s Why
#1 Funnel-Neck Collar jackets
Reformation butter yellow jacket here and here | White jeans, petites here | Sandals | Loewe tote
This is by far one of the biggest trends to hit spring outerwear, and it comes from one small detail: a funnel neck. These coats can range in silhouettes, but they’ve all got a structured, high neck in common that keeps them looking cool and stylish. We’ve seen these as street style and on runways, like at Tory Burch and Chloé.
#2 Rag & Bone Blazers
Rag & Bone Mercer jacket here and here | Faded Mother Bookie jeans | Sandals | Bottega bag | White tee
This Rag & Bone blazer is one of my highest recommendations! It’s soft and stretchy, and looks nice and polished like a blazer, but feels more like a sweater. For many years the Slade blazer was a personal favorite (I still love it), but this one is really similar but feels new and fresh. Next time I wear mine, I’ll layer a collared shirt underneath for a more sophisticated look. It’s so versatile, and it doesnt’ wrinkle, which makes it ideal as your next travel outfit. And, even more exciting, it just got re-stocked! So don’t wait, this is a good one.
#3 Denim Jacket Update
Frame denim jacket at Nordstrom or here at Frame | Le Slim Palazzo white jeans | Red Savette bag | Sandals
Denim jackets are one of those must-have wardrobe staples that just work! Over the years I’ve collected a handful, and I wear them often, but some are starting to look a little dated. Right now, I’m loving new shapes like this fitted one from Frame along with this boxy swing style also from Frame. And, I have a discount code: SUSIE15 to get 15% off your order. Other styles I like include this utility style and this new light wash one.
#4 Cropped Trench Jackets
Frame crop trench | Dark wash jeans | Slingbacks | Lady Dior bag, pre-owned here
Cropped trench jackets have been trending, and they’re really easy to wear. Once the weather warms up, and it finally starts to feel a little springy, It’s a great time to give one a try. I love this one I’m wearing above by Frame, and it just came back in stock. You can use my discount code: SUSIE15 to get 15% off your order, or Nordstrom has it available too. Aritzia does a great job when it comes to jackets, and this one is really good. Below are some other options.
#5 Longer Trench Coats
Oak & Fort flowy trench | Leather pants | Sandals
A longer, slightly relaxed trench coat is so chic, and this is another wardrobe staple I think should be in everyone’s closets! The one I’m wearing above, is hands down the most-worn jacket I have in my closet. It’s lightweight, and flowy, and probably more jacket like than warm coat like. I’ve worn this one over dresses, nicer pants, leather pants and of course casual jeans and sneakers. For a spring weight trench, look at this one by J.Crew, which happens to be on sale right now. Below are more options you might like.
#6 Sporty Jackets
Moncler jacket | White jeans, petites here | Goyard tote | Sandals
All the fashion girls are wearing nylon jackets or sporty jackets with everything from skirts to dresses to jeans. Recently I splurged on this Moncler one, and the bubble hem and sleeve detail make it a little extra! Below are some other options.
#7 Utility Jackets
Rails jacket | Frame jeans | Bottega bag
Sometimes an easy, casual jacket is just what we need, and this one by Rails has always been a best-seller, and now it’s back in stock! I also love this Nordstrom one, and this new belted one. See below for more options.
