Fashion People Know This Is the Key to a Great Wardrobe!
As we head into a new year, many of us start thinking about editing and refreshing our closets. It’s the perfect moment to take stock of what you already own, what you actually wear, and which pieces still earn their spot. One thing I’ve noticed is that we all have a lot of clothes (me included). Yet, the thing I hear over and over again is “I don’t have anything to wear.” I get it, I’ve been there too! But, what I’ve learned over the years is that the KEY to making great outfits is having all the correct pieces.
So, here’s the tip: make sure the items you purchase can be worn at least three ways! By choosing your investment pieces thoughtfully and carefully, you’ll end up with a forever wardrobe, and will always have something to wear. Back in my Nordstrom styling days, I encouraged my friends and clients to think in terms of outfits instead of pieces, and they always walked out happy.
Today’s post is about 5 Winter trend items that everyone should have in their closets. These pieces are considered “outfit makers,” which is my term for the important pieces that make many different stylish outfits. For example, ankle flare pants have been making a comeback, and they can be worn several ways. Same with these travel jeans, this scarf jacket, and more. Keep reading to see all the outfit possibilities, I think you’ll like them!
5 Winter Trend Items That Make Stylish Outfits You’ll Love

#1 Travel jeans – that are really sweatpants
Oak & Fort trench | Turtleneck | Slingbacks | Tote | Belt
Rag & Bone Miramar Pants – I call these the best travel pants ever!
I know it sounds a little crazy, but these viral pants are so good, and everyone who tries them loves them! They’re actually printed terry cloth fabric made to look like jeans. You can see the entire collection here, including the best-selling Sophie style, which is a full length wide-leg style. Then there’s this one that looks like a track pant, and this one that’s less wide than the one above. Their newest style, a bootcut flare made of Refine Knit, is also super soft and stretchy, and is so flattering. I can’t say enough good things about these pants. You’ll feel comfortable and put-together on your next flight. Use my discount code: SUSIE20 to get 20% off your next purchase.

Zara blazer – this oversized one is affordable and super stylish
I love a slightly oversized blazer, and this Zara one is really good, and there are so many ways to style it. I think the key is to make sure your black blazer isn’t too fitted, so you get a little cooler look. Another option is this one at Aritzia, I own it myself, and the crepe fabric is perfect any time of year.
Style with Leather pants, Ecru denim, Faded denim … the list goes on

Every fashion girl is wearing this elevated pant trend! And, after reading this recent Who What Wear article “It’s Spreading: Everyday, Another Chic L.A. Fashion Person Is Seen Wearing This Black-Pant Trend With Ballet Flats,” I decided it’s time to get on board. From Paris to NYC to LA, this super easy and effortlessly chic outfit is one we all need to copy — ASAP. Here are three I’ve personally tried and recommend: the Vince pintuck pants, Rag & Bone Irina, J.Crew slim-wide pants and and the cult favorite High Sport ones.

Loafers are the shoe of the season, and there are so many versions! I’ve been eyeing these chunkier ones that Emily keeps wearing on repeat. For a designer pair, the YSL Le Loafers are having a moment, same with the Fendi Baguette. For affordable versions, look at this, this and this. All so great any time of year.
