The London Outfit Everyone Was Wearing: Get the Look
On a recent trip to Paris, I decided to spend the last few days in London — and it ended up being a highlight of the trip! If you’ve been following me for a while, you might know that both my parents are British, and I’ve often visited my family in England. These trips always feel extra special since they’re a reminder of my sweet dad who passed away three years ago. This time, Emily and I stayed at The Cadogan, which we loved. Between dinner at Gold in Notting Hill, trend shopping in Chelsea and sipping champagne on Pimlico Road, I noticed that everywhere I looked, all the all the cool girls were wearing a “uniform.” Yep, they all had some version of this outfit, so of course, I’m writing about it!
What’s everyone wearing in London? Outerwear is key. Think elegant long wool coats, denim, black boots, a scarf and a posh designer handbag (everything from The Row to Celine to Dior). And, the interesting thing about this outfit is that it’s the obvious go-to for a daily outfit. Not only is it practical, but it’s also stylish and comfortable. Here’s how to get the look: Since many of us already own light wash denim, just find a classic wool coat, add a great sweater and black boots, a cozy scarf and a handbag you love, and it will be the perfect “uniform” to wear all winter long.

In the last few years, I’ve always stayed at one of the Firmdale Hotels, which are cozy and comfortable. I always recommend them to my friends and family. Some favorites include The Ham Yard, Charlotte Street, Covent Garden and Number Sixteen.
For this trip, I wanted something different, so we tried The Cadogan, in the Belgravia/Chelsea area. It was lovely, and the location on Sloane Street was ideal. However, on the first day about a half block down the street, we stumbled upon the Beaverbrook Townhouse which was also sooo cute! As we were poking around, the manager offered to show us a room — I think I’ll stay here next time 😌 It’s a little gem in the perfect neighborhood.

I spent time exploring several different neighborhoods, including the Chelsea area, Belgravia and Notting Hill. For a quick minute, I felt less like a tourist and more like a true Londoner! The weather was cool and cloudy, and pretty much everywhere I looked, a stylish person was wearing the “uniform” you see above. The best part? This outfit is practical and easy to copy.
How to Get the Look: Start With a Wool Coat
Everyone on the streets of London was wearing a wool coat. There were belted styles, looser fits, and slightly oversized ones too. The coats were mostly black and gray, with some camel and lighter beige colors as well.
Add cool, updated denim
This is the key to keeping this look current. Mostly everyone was wearing a classic straight leg jean in a medium wash blue, and some black. I didn’t see anyone wearing barrel jeans!
Wear a sweater underneath the coat
Most sweaters I noticed were all the same colors mentioned above, and there were some v-neck versions too. The combination of a sweater and a wool coat will keep you warm and toasty!
Black boots are the key to the whole look
Everywhere I looked, black boots (of varying styles) were on the fashion set. The styles I saw were mostly practical, like Chelsea boots, and cool-girl boots with a more elongated toe.
Finally, the two main accessories: a big scarf and a designer handbag
The scarves were mostly solid, chunky knitted styles. Occasionally I’d see a silky, more understated pattern. As for bags, mostly saw crossbody styles and some totes.
