Absolute Favorites: The Things I Recommend Over and Over!

This weekend, I spent a few hours in my closet cleaning, organizing, and making outfits for the cooler days ahead. Since I’m heading to Paris in a couple of weeks, I went through some of my favorites that have been packed away for the last eight months. This reminded me of how good they are, and that’s what inspired today’s post. And, since the holidays are right around the corner and gift-giving season is almost upon us, I thought it would be the perfect time to highlight 30 things that I recommend over and over!

I’ve said this before, but writing this fun little blog is truly a career highlight … and honestly, a bit of a surprise! What started as a place to share style inspo with my clients and friends quickly grew into something much bigger. And, I’m loving every single minute of it! THANK YOU for following along and for giving me the chance to share what I know. I appreciate you 🤍

Today’s post gives you my highest recommendations on items that I’ve personally tried and love. As you know, I follow my “authenticity promise” whenever I write here on So Susie, and I’m very careful about what I feature on the blog. These faves are a bit of a mix — everything from the perfect pair of scissors (yes everyone needs them) to the only button up shirt I think is worth buying to a newer brand I just discovered. Grab a cup of tea, this post is a little long … but I hope it’s helpful. Enjoy!

Let’s start with jeans … one of the most important topics around here!

#1 The jean that fits everyone: The Paige AnessaThis past summer, my Nordstrom friends and I all tried these jeans, and we shared the results in this video. We’re all different sizes and heights, and they worked for all of us. Because this jean is a top seller, it keeps getting re-stocked in new washes/colors. For example, it just arrived in a black coated style, and I ordered it asap. I also spotted this darker wash which is super slimming and is available in petites. Click here and here for the best selection of these jeans.

#2 Petite jeans — Talk about a game changer if you’re 5’4″ and under! The knee placement is higher and the rise and inseam are shorter, so everything fits where it should. Some favorites I’ve tried recently include: Mother Hustler Roller, Mother Hustler, Frame Le Pixie Reboot, Frame Le Slim Palazzo and Paige Anessa. I highly recommend all of these.

#3 The TikTok viral sweatpant jean  — I know this sounds wild, but the Miramar collection at Rag & Bone has the best-selling jeans around, and everyone seems to love them. They’re super comfy and run roomy, but once you find your size, you’ll likely go back for a second pair … they’re that good. I highly recommend the Sofie or this wide-leg one. Remember to size down since they run big. Use my code SOSUSIE20 for 20% off sitewide at Rag & Bone!

#4 Everyone loves the Mother Hustler RollerThis long length flare leg jean is super flattering, and it’s also a cool, modern jean that everyone raves about. I love this darker wash, and this blackish/greyish wash. They fit really nicely, including those of us who are 5’4″ and under, thanks to petite sizing. This style works perfectly with ankle boots, specifically a pointy toe style like this or a chunkier heel boot like this.

#5 The other super stylish Frame jean everyone is wearingWide-leg jeans like this are the “it” jean to own right now. Sometimes wide-leg jeans can be a little tricky to wear, but these aren’t too wide. They’re flattering through the hip/bottom area, and are also available in petite sizing here and here. I’ve talked about them for the last year, and they’re still one of my absolute highest recommendations.

#6 Gingher scissors — I’ve included these in the denim section, since they’re the best scissors to use if you plan to DIY hem your jeans. I don’t know how I dealt with dull scissors my whole life — I’m so glad these came along! And, they’re only $39. So hurry and get them, you’ll thank me later 😉

And clothing, of course …

#7 Rag & Bone wool blazer — This is a new purchase this season, and I’m so glad I decided to try it! Online it looks like it would be structured and possibly uncomfortable, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The lighter weight soft wool is stretchy, and feels more like a sweater than a blazer. It’s super comfortable, and it’s one of my top recommendations lately.

#8 The best basic long-sleeved t-shirtThis one is so good, you might wonder how you lived without it this long. According to lululemon, “this lightweight, everyday top has just the right softness, the right stretch, and a snug fit that feels like a second skin.” I 100% agree, and think It’s the perfect layering piece. It adds a layer of warmth when you need it. Once I was in Palm Springs and was freezing at night, and literally wore this top every day for a week under a cashmere sweater! I can’t recommend it enough. Get it as a gift for everyone in your family, they’ll love it.

#9 The must-have cashmere hoodieIf there’s one sweater I recommend to everyone, it’s THIS cashmere hoodie. It’s the one I grab over and over again — almost daily in the winter. Not only is it super comfy, it also layers under every jacket. That includes a Moncler puffer, a trench, longer wrap coats, casual jackets … you get the idea. Click here for grey, and click here for the other colors.

#10 The stylish boot that elevates your winter outfits — I literally can’t imagine a wardrobe without these boots. They’re the perfect heel height, super flattering on your feet, and they’ll make all your denim outfits that much more cool. I rarely say this, but this is possibly the one boot you could own in two colors!

#11 Tuckernuck dressesThey really are that good! I’m talking about the brands Hyacinth House, Pomander Place and Tuckernuck — all of which are exclusive to Tuckernuck. They’re well-priced (most are between $198-$298) and there is a style for everyone. Some current favorites include this holiday midi style, this one with fur trim, this cozy sweater dress, and this gorgeous satin one.

#12 Barbour Beadnell jacket — Out of all the Barbour jackets, this style is one of my favorites. It’s not too heavy, and it’s a super flattering length. This is a jacket you’ll wear on repeat, and since it’s a true classic, it will be in style for years to come!

#13 Aritzia Lodge pantThis is one of the most talked-about items at Aritzia, and it’s all over Instagram — for good reason! They’re comfortable, and the loose fit feels modern. Since they don’t wrinkle, they’re perfect for vacation. And, when you arrive, you’ll still grab them to wear during the day with sneakers, and at night with a small heel.

#14 The softest splurge cashmere sweater — For years, I helped my clients and friends with this sweater. For some reason, it never made it into my closet until last year, when I wanted a simple black sweater. Then I basically wore it every day for a week straight! It’s available in many colors, including this new shade of brown.

Quince Favorites

Left: Structured cardigan | Cashmere crew | Slip skirt | Right: Scarf jacket | Jimmy Choo bag

#15 Scarf jacket This designer-inspired jacket is a good one, and I noticed many super stylish women wearing it around NYC this past week. It’s cozy, practical, and you’ll feel a little extra this season when you wear it. It’s a little roomy, and for reference, I have the XS.

#16 The $50 Cashmere sweater – yep, $50I know, I keep talking about this sweater — but hear me out. At first, I was skeptical of a $50 cashmere sweater. I thought to myself … there’s no way it could be that good! Then I tried it, and wow have I been impressed. On a recent LA trip, we had cooler weather and I wore it 6 days in a row, I’m not kidding. To my surprise, it held up beautifully! For really helpful cashmere care instructions, make sure to check out the website. And, while you’re at it, I recommend you stock up on ivory, gray, black, and maybe a faded blue one too.

#17 Structured cardigan — Here’s another designer-inspired knitwear piece that looks way more expensive then it is — thank you Jenni Kayne! If you’re looking for a layering third piece, this is a top recommendation. It’s a slightly heavier weight than the others, and the slightly shaped style makes it very flattering.

#18 Italian Leather Travel Cosmetic CaseI just purchased this travel case and brought it to New York. It’s very good quality, and it fit everything perfectly. I really like how everything is in its place, standing up, when you arrive at your destination. Click here for a little packing demo 😉

#19 Slip skirtFor a basic slip skirt that is perfect for travel (and really any occasion), this is a great option. It comes in two lengths, but I prefer the longer length because it feels a little more updated. Try it with boots, sneakers, sandals — it’s ideal for any time of year.

Luxurious Items & Gift Ideas

#20 The splurge necklace you’ll love forever — I’ve worn this tennis necklace every day for the last year. Mine is 16″ and has a 3″ diamond segment. It’s sparkly and beautiful, and layers perfectly with every other necklace you wear. It is a splurge, I know, but it’s one of those pieces you’ll love (and wear) for years to come. Think about adding it to your Christmas wish list 🌟

#21 Signature scentOne of life’s little luxuries is finding a signature scent that you absolutely love. My go-to fragrance is Rouge 540. It’s a little sexy, long lasting, and ideal for every day wear. The amount of compliments I get is crazy — no wonder it’s listed as the #1 most complimented fragrance out there! Another one to try is Portrait of a Lady, which is a beloved, long lasting scent that can be worn any time of year. I just replenished while shopping in NYC.

#22 The luxurious silk robe under $200 — There’s nothing better than feeling a little extra in the morning when getting ready for your day. A silk robe will do that, and this washable one is hands down a favorite! It makes the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one.

#23 Pretty things — Sounds a little basic, but at this stage of life, we want to be surrounded by pretty things that make us happy! This Diptyque scented oval is one of those items. I love it so much that I always give one as a hostess gift, and I share it with my favorite people for the holidays. The soft scent (34 Boulevard Saint Germain) is calming and lovely, and it’s perfect for a bathroom, closet, or your nightstand

#24 Dorsey Tennis bracelet — For an affordable, beautifully made tennis bracelet, this is a great option. I’ve been wearing mine non-stop lately, although I made a mistake on the size (6) and it’s a little tight. Be sure to measure your wrist 🙂

#25 The coolest cuff around! — Ever since I laid eyes on the crazy expensive Tiffany Bone cuff that everyone talks about, it has been on my wishlist. So, when I spotted this more affordable version, I got pretty excited … then it sold out. The minute it came back in stock, I ordered it, and I’ve worn it many times. It’s a classic piece you’ll have for years, and it makes a statement so you hardly need any other jewelry. It’s in stock – but won’t be for long!

The Last 5 Items

Left: Crop trench, similar | Frame jeans | Right: J.Crew coat | Black Vince pants | Prada bag | Paige heels

#26 Comfortable panties — Shhh don’t tell anyone, but these not sexy, super comfortable best-selling panties are really that good! It’s a secret in the lingerie department: this is the one panty everyone loves (and wears). They’re one size fits all (which is kind of crazy), and they come in several different styles. You’ll thank me later on this little tip 🙂

#27 The mini-spa in a jar — treat yourself — During the early days of the pandemic, I discovered the Colleen Rothschild cleansing balm. I’ve given it as gifts to all my friends and family, and still use it regularly. It’s quite luxurious, and your skin will feel smooth and nourished. And, it smells good too.

#28 My #1 travel must-haveYou’re going to want this best-selling carry-on bag every time you go somewhere. It’s an incredible price for what you get: a good looking bag that holds everything you need and is also very durable. I often get questions about whether it can fit under the seat. Yes, if you pack it half-full — and even when it’s only half-full, it still holds a lot! There’s also a mini option if you prefer a slightly smaller size. I don’t know what took me so long to try this one, I love it.

#29 The tech item that brings so much happiness Sounds a little over the top, but I always bring a speaker on my trips. It feels nice to listen to your own music while getting ready!

#30 The only scarf you’ll ever needHands down, this is the ONLY scarf you’ll ever need, I swear. It’s lightweight, perfect for an extra layer (especially when traveling), and not too bulky. I’ve worn this one for years, from fall to winter to spring. All my friends have it, and it’s the only one I recommend. I also take it on every single trip, and can’t recommend it enough. It’s my absolute favorite scarf … ever!
