What To Wear Now: 5 Trend Items That Make Stylish Fall Outfits!
Since we’re at the beginning of a new season, now’s the perfect time to start working on our closets. This means pulling out all your fall clothes from last year and going through them one by one. I do this every season, and it’s such a helpful way to start out right! Then, you can begin making a list of new-season pieces you’re excited to add. I truly believe that adding just one or two trend items helps keep your outfits feeling current and cool.
Today’s post is about 5 trend items everyone should add to their fall wardrobe. These pieces are considered “outfit makers,” which is my term for the important pieces that make many different stylish outfits. For example, ankle flare pants have been making a comeback, and they can be worn several ways. Same with these barrel-leg jeans, this scarf sweater, and more. Keep reading to see all the outfit possibilities, I think you’ll like them!
Pro-tip: make sure items you purchase can be worn at least three ways. By choosing your investment pieces thoughtfully and carefully, you’ll end up with a forever wardrobe. Back in my Nordstrom Stylist days, I encouraged all my clients and friends to think in terms of outfits instead of pieces, and they always walked out happy! Cheers 🥂
The 5 Trend Items That Make Stylish Fall Outfits
Barrel jeans | Loafers | Black ankle flare pants | Utility jackets | Scarf jackets
#1 Barrel Jeans

Rag & Bone jacket | J.Crew cardigan | Mother jeans | Nike sneakers | Suede bag | Sunnies
Mother Barrel jeans — Transform your wardrobe with this one trend item. Even I jumped on board with this Madewell one that’s available in petite sizes (game changer if you’re 5’4″ and below). If you want to take a baby step, this is the one to try. I told my co-worker to run and get them, and she’d thank me later. And she did!
We will see this major denim trend continue through 2025. With its relaxed silhouette and numerous styling options, it’s easy to see why the fashion set is obsessively wearing barrel-leg jeans.

#2 Loafers

Loafers are the shoe of the season, and there are so many versions! Love these chunkier ones above, and Emily wore them all last year. I’m also loving soft white ones like this pair. And this year, suede ones are everywhere – look at this style.

Vince flare pants — I wear a size XS for reference, and had them hemmed
Every fashion girl is wearing this elevated pant trend! And, after reading this recent Who What Wear article “It’s Spreading: Everyday, Another Chic L.A. Fashion Person Is Seen Wearing This Black-Pant Trend With Ballet Flats,” I decided it’s time to get on board. From Paris to NYC to LA, this super easy and effortlessly chic outfit is one we all need to copy — ASAP. Here are three I’ve personally tried and recommend: the Vince pintuck pants, these from Anthropologie, and the cult favorite High Sport ones.

#4 Utility Jackets

Anine Bing barn jacket — This one caught my eye, both in color and the cool black leather trim detail. Runs large so size down
The utility jacket is back again this year, and it’s the must-have jacket to buy this fall. It’s always exciting to find a trend that’s both practical and stylish, and the timing is perfect. There are options at all price points, and I highly recommend finding one you love and grabbing it … ASAP!
