Don’t Miss The 7 Hottest Shoe Trends This Summer

Before you buy summer shoes, you have to hear this very important stylist tip! It sounds a little dramatic, but here’s the deal: summer is a short season, so make your purchases wisely! In my book, that means make sure the shoes you take home have the ability to be worn several different ways. While you don’t need a million shoes, owning several key pairs that are stylish and on-trend is the perfect way to update all your summer outfits. Additionally, it’s even better if they’re versatile enough to last a few seasons. Then, no matter whether you splurge or save, you’ll feel really good about your shoe purchases.

Today’s post is about the hottest shoe trends this summer. These seven styles are all very wearable, and will last beyond a season or two. For example, thong sandals are having a moment — talk about an easy shoe that’ll make all your outfits a little cooler! Then there’s the sandal of the season that just took off and keeps selling out. Keep reading to find out what the shoe trends actually are, get a little street style inspo, and see which shoes might be worth adding to your cart. Cheers!

P.S. Yesterday on Instagram, I shared this video on summer sandals, and featured which are the most important ones to own. That video gave me the idea for this blog post! If you click here you can see the exact shoes I shared. Remember, the most important thing to remember is that neutral, skin-toned shoes are the key to making sure you’re covered for every single outfit.

#1 Super Chic Red Shoes

The color red is everywhere at the moment, and it won’t be going away any time soon. Lately, I’ve been spotting red ballet flats on all the cool girls and believe it or not, it’s an easy trend to add to our wardrobes. Some styling ideas include red shoes with white dresses (which are perfect this time of year), and of course, every favorite pair of faded jeans jeans in your closet. I LOVE this one, and see below for some favorites I’ve been watching out for.

#2 Thong Sandals: Minimal and Sexy

Every now and then, I can’t get an outfit out of my mind, and last summer Kendall Jenner was wearing a combo I couldn’t stop thinking about (pictured above). Her long linen dress paired with thong sandals and a baseball hat looked so chic! Even though she’s a half my age – we can still get a little style inspo from her … right? So, this season look for thong sandals in flat comfy versions like these, as well as heels like these and dressier versions like these.

#3 The Color That Works Magic on Your Outfits

Adding a touch of caramel to your outfit makes everything look expensive, and it’s the one color that works for ALL seasons. It compliments all other colors: black, white, gray, navy, chambray, pink, bright pink, tan, green … I think you get the idea! This time of year, one of the best things you can do is invest in a good, everyday, caramel-colored sandal. You’ll wear it daily, and it really is the luxe summer shoe. Caramel sandals go with everything, from denim shorts to dresses to skirts, it always works!

#4 The Sandal of the Season

A few weeks ago, I spotted these popular sandals and decided to order them immediately. They check all the boxes: heel height is not too high, neutral skin-toned color, and a fun embellishment to give them a little extra something. I ended up wearing them in Arizona with this cute dress … and felt a little extra 😊 Then I realized everyone must be loving them because they sold out! Now they’re back in several colors and styles, including a flat version. I found a few sizes at Nordstrom, some at Saks, and all sizes at Shopbop. This is one of those shoes you might consider owning in a couple of colors — I’m eyeing the white ones. I also found this Dolce Vita pair that looks identical for less. Don’t miss this great shoe that works with all your summer outfits!

#5 The Most Important Shoe of All

After spending over two decades in the Nordstrom dressing room, I came up with a simple trick that works every time: invest in neutral shoes! I feel so passionate about this subject because I’ve tested it out on myself and on hundreds of clients. So trust me — it works. They blend with your skin tone, making them leg lengthening (especially with skirts and dresses) and flattering. And, they work with every color of clothing! Grab a flat pair of sandals or ones with a small heel, and you’ll wear them all summer long. Click here to watch this video (everything shown is listed here), and see below for my highest recommendations.

#6 Gold Shoes are a Surprising Neutral

Pretty gold shoes are a wardrobe classic at this point, and depending on which style you choose, you’ll wear them often and have them for years to come. Think of them as a neutral shoe that has a place in every closet. Not only are they flattering on the foot, they elevate many different outfits. You could even have one or two different styles in your wardrobes. Trust me, you’ll wear them all the time.

#7 Yes, Black Shoes Still Work

A while back on Instagram, I made a bold statement: stop buying black shoes! I know it sounds a bit extreme. But the point is, they can look really heavy on your feet, and they’re a little tricky to style in the summer. However, when styled correctly they do work. So, here are some favorites worth checking out.
