The Top 10 Dress Trends to Try This Summer

#1 Gingham dresses are a thing right now!

Doen gingham shift dress

Gingham is a timeless trend, and it was everywhere on the spring runways. Now that summer is around the corner, there are many versions to choose from, including the instagram favorite brand Doen. Anthropologie also has some really cute pieces!

Other options:  Doen midi dress, Veronica Beard halter, Cinq A Sept sundress, this one by Anthropologie and this orange one

#2 Strapless Dresses

Everyone is wearing a version of this color-block drop waist dress whether you’re in St. Tropez or Positano or any other big European city. It’s chic, versatile, and can dressed up or down. Swap out your flat sandals for some gold heels and you’re ready for the night!

Other options: This white linen one, this stripe one in bright colors, this lace one and this versatile black one

#3 Slipdresses are wardrobe classics at this point

L’Agence slipdress

Slipdresses are a wardrobe essential for summer — they’re a little sexy, and always chic. Add a shawl like this one for extra warmth, and don’t forget your strapless bra! This is the #1 selling bra in America 🙂

Other options: For affordable options look at Quince or J.Crew, also love this L’Agence one, and this printed slip from Anthro.

#4 Vacation Dresses

It’s that time of year where the selection of bright, pretty vacation dresses is at its best! Last summer, while wandering the windy streets in Positano, every stylish person was wearing a version of the dress above. So this year, it’s exciting to see all the different versions. For bright fun colors, Farm Rio shines this time of year, so does the brand Rails.

Other options: This and this from Farm Rio, this Anthro one, this green print, and this new dot one

#5 Special Occasion Dresses

Veronica Beard dress

For a summer garden party or a special dinner, having one dress that feels a bit more elevated is key. I spotted this new Veronica Beard one, and it’s really great. Just add different accessories and you can easily switch up your look. Try wearing this dress with lower-heeled sandals or taller ones — both work!

Other options: This navy lace is gorgeous, this classy cape dress, and check out my latest post on wedding guest dresses here

Bonus: Linen Dress & casual everyday dresses

Left: Frank & Eileen denim Rory dress | Shorter denim dress | Right: Veronica Beard linen dress

Casual dresses: This is your go-to day dress when you want to look cute but still be comfortable. Wear them with flat sandals and straw totes for the perfect warm weather uniform. Frank & Eileen makes some of my favorites. Consider wearing the Wacoal Body Base shorts under all your dresses — you’ll feel better, especially if the wind catches you 😉

Linen dresses: If you’re looking for a stylish dress option to wear in warmer weather, I highly recommend linen. Keep in mind, it doesn’t have to be perfectly ironed! As a matter of fact, I think a linen dress looks better when it’s a little more relaxed. Think midi styles in classic colors like navy, white and soft neutrals. Add a caramel-colored sandal, and this will be your go-to uniform. Quince makes some beautiful yet affordable options, and they’re under $100.
