The Ultimate Vacation Capsule Wardrobe: Italy- Inspired!

Last year, as part of my birthday celebration, I landed in beautiful Italy for a fun vacation with my family. We met up with my Italian cousins, did a little boating, walked up a zillion stairs, ate loads of pasta, sipped yummy limoncello spritzes and, of course, squeezed in a little “blog research” (aka shopping). This was my third visit to the Amalfi coast in the past five years because I absolutely love it there. But, now it’s time to visit a few other places, like Lake Como and Sardinia. My Italy list is never-ending! ☀️

Today’s post is all about what to pack for your next vacation, and a few travel tips I’ve learned a long the way. Whether you’re going to Europe (or a large US city) or staying close to home, the recommendations in this post will make super stylish summer outfits. Think classic summer pieces that you’ll wear all season long, like the pant you’ll wear on repeat, casual dresses that make getting dressed easy, and of course, all the cool accessories you need for stylish outfits. Happy travels!

Full disclosure: I’m not a packing expert, and there were some things that should have stayed behind. But, that’s what happens when you pack the night before and don’t take the time to think through every outfit 😂  I’m just like many of you — figuring it out as I go. Hopefully, the tips below will help you plan and pack. Happy travels! 🥂

Start with packing the basics

No matter where you’re vacationing this summer, every great wardrobe capsule starts with the basics. They are the foundation to getting dressed effortlessly. And, by starting here, you’ll have outfits for every occasion! Here are the summer 2025 pieces that I’m recommending this year. Keep scrolling to the bottom, because I’m also including the fun pieces that take your wardrobe to the next level!

Susie’s outfit: Quince dress | Celine tote | Cashmere over shoulders | Sandals

Row 1: Denim jacket | TWP button up | Linen vest | Farm Rio skirt

2: Fleece jacket | Sweatshirt jean | Rag & Bone tee | Denim skirt

Row 3: Linen travel set | Bracelets | Prada tote | Short sleeve cardigan | Sandal | Farm Rio cotton dress

Summer Dresses & Skirts

Left: Short sleeve sweater | Farm Rio dress | Jimmy Choo bag | Sandals | Right: Linen vest | Farm Rio skirt | Necklace | Straw bag | Sandal

Dresses: Talk about the easiest pieces to pack! I always throw in several extra since I tend to check my luggage. I also think they’re one of the easiest pieces to wear in hot weather. Some favorites include anything by Farm Rio, and classic linen dresses by Quince. Check out this post for more Quince ideas.

Skirts: Longer midi-style skirts are trending this season. You might consider a printed one like this Farm Rio, or a simple white one like this. I’m certain you’ll wear it all the time!

Summer Tops & Pants

Left: Denim jacketLace toplinen pant | Bag | Sandals | Bracelet | Right: Cardigan | Pink tee | Sweatshirt jeansTote | Sandal | Necklace

Summer tops: You’ll want a couple of basic tanks (including a striped like this one), a basic tee (this is my favorite), and possibly a polo top like this Vince one. From there add a linen vest that you’ll wear with everything (even over a strappy dress), and a couple of cardigans (long and short sleeved).  A button up is key for every summer wardrobe, like this classic white linen one. Also, make sure you have one lightweight cashmere sweater for chilly evenings. This one is my highest recommendation.

Summer pants: Hands down, a linen pant is a must in everyone’s wardrobe. I shared my favorites in this post.

The fun pieces that really make your wardrobe

Once you have the basics covered, throw in a few extra items, like dresses and swimwear. They hardly take any room!
