Accessories are the finishing touch, and how beautiful is this Gucci scarf and Ferragamo bag?

Touches of leopard are always in style, and I love these sandals and this Farm Rio top

These are the 15 “forever pieces”

#1 Classic wool coat – Begin the winter season with a new classic wool coat in any color you fall in love with! You’ll be surprised at the versatility of a fun color. Of course, a classic camel or black is always a good idea. Wear over dresses, with your favorite denim, or even with a tonal pair of trousers. We can always enjoy a beautiful Max Mara coat, but of course, there are more affordable options too: look at this one by J.Crew (comes in petites) and this one by Fleurette or this best selling Anine Bing one.

#2 A beautiful everyday handbag – When you want to create a great day-to-night outfit, a bag that works for both is one of the best investments you can make. Last year, I splurged on the “it” Bottega bag, and it’s still one of my personal favorites. Also, everyone is loving shades of wine this year, so consider this YSL and this Gucci. Both are gorgeous! For an affordable brand, I always think Rebecca Minkoff has good options, and same with Rag & Bone and Veronica Beard. I just recently picked up this one by Marc Jacobs, and my stylist friends thought it was Valentino 🤭

Boots, Boots, Boots

#3 Boots – Right now, boots are a must-have piece in our wardrobes. Whether you love a pointy toe style like this Stuart Weitzman pair or an everyday one like this, these will get lots of wear this season and beyond. Since knee boots are trending, some favorites include this riding boot style, this Reformation one (good if you’re petite) and this classic with a heel. See more boot ideas on my LTK here and here.

#4 Of-the-moment midi skirt – If you add a skirt to your wardrobe, you’ll see firsthand how versatile it is. Skirts are easy to dress up or down, and your outfit options are endless! They work with many different styles of shoes, including knee boots, sneakers, flats and of course, dressy sandals. I just spotted this skirt from Veronica beard, and it’s the perfect item to give many of your classic pieces an update. Others include this plaid slip skirt, this faux leather, and this leopard J.Crew one.

#5 Belts are the accessory to add this year – There are many options at different price points. You can go for a cool girl style like this $78 studded one which is inspired by this Khaite Instagram favorite. Also in the mix should be a classic one like this YSL, this one or this one that’s in my shopping bag! Talk about an easy way to elevate all your outfits!

# 6 LBD – I mean … everyone should have a LBD or two hanging in their closets, right? At the moment, I’d suggest this ALC Renzo — the most flattering wear-everywhere dress that is a top seller. This is another great holiday option, and so is this one by Milly. Also, you can’t ever go wrong with a Vince slip dress – all so good!

#7 Silk blouse – This Frame Gillian silk blouse is hands down a favorite in my own closet — I’ve had it for three years! There’s something about a beautiful silk blouse that always reads elegant and sophisticated. Look at this Vince one, this Frame classic and this snake print one.

#8 Puffer jackets – Whether you go for a classic Moncler style like this (check out this Quince look-a-like), a vest, or even a North Face style, puffer jackets are here to last! They’re stylish, practical and everyone should own one (or two). I love this Moncler one (I’ve had mine for years), and I also love a longer puffer vest. This North Face one is a great option and it’s on limited-time sale today!

Jewelry and Blazers …

#9 Beautiful jewelry and watches – Having your own special pieces of jewelry is helpful when it comes to completing your outfit. Look for medallion style necklaces and diamond layers and chains, along with classic hoop earrings and bracelets. Remember, it’s ok to mix fine jewelry with more affordable pieces. If you’re up for a splurge, this Zoe Chicco diamond necklace is absolutely gorgeous (I have the 3″ segment). I’ve worn this Gigi Clozeau beaded necklace for years, and got this Ring Concierge bracelet for my birthday! I wear this Protection necklace from Foundrae everyday, and I’ve added this and this to it over the years.

#10 Well-fitting blazer – I can’t think of a better investment piece than a classic, well-fitting blazer. The Veronica Beard Miller Dickey jacket is an all-time favorite, and you can choose black or navy with either gold or silver buttons. For something a little cleaner and slightly oversized, check out this one from Aritzia. It’s well-priced and gives you a current look. Try it over a dress or with your favorite jeans. For an classic style, this Rag & Bone one is a personal favorite. And, this Cinq a Sept Khloe ruched sleeve blazer is a best seller that everyone loves.

#11 A touch of leopard – Leopard is having a moment this season, and one might argue, it never went away! For years, I had shoes similar to these that I wore with everything from jeans and dresses. I’ve had my eye on this Prada bag, this scarf, this flat shoe. Of course, if you love leopard as much as I do, find a piece that speaks to you and go for it. Shoes are a great place to start!

#12 Scarves you’ll love forever – Solid or printed, you can’t go wrong here. Create the classic French look by adding a scarf to your outfit. For example, I love this solid black one (which now comes in a beautiful dark brown color). For a designer option, look at this Gucci one.

#13 Cashmere – A classic cashmere sweater (like the $50 ones from Quince) is a piece that will last you for years. Right now, a cashmere sweater looks super stylish if you casually throw it over your shoulders. Also I like the idea of buying two in the same color — wear one, and wrap the other one over your shoulders — so chic! If you prefer nicer quality, you can’t go wrong with one by Vince. This v-neck is amazing, and so is this one. For the best info on cashmere care, look at this website.

More Knit Pieces …

This knit skirt and matching top at Sezane caught my eye — look at all the gorgeous colors! For something more casual, consider a cashmere hoodie and matching pant. I can think of a zillion ways to wear these sets together or separately. What a great investment!

#14 Striped sweaters – Talk about a classic piece you’ll have for years to come. A striped sweater works any time of year, and it adds a little interest to your outfits, while still keeping things simple and stylish. Check out this one from Nordstrom that comes in several colors, and this cozy one.

#15 Loafers – A classic loafer is a great addition to any closet, and they don’t have to be boring or expensive. Look at this white pair, and you’d be surprised at how versatile they are. Of course, a black loafer is a classic, look at this Gucci look-a-like pair under $70 and this. And, if you want to go all out, look at this Gucci pair, this pair from Tod’s and this classic YSL pair.

BONUS: Black jeans – This time of year, I mostly wear black or blackish wash jeans, and currently this Mother and this Frame are my favorites. They’re slimming, work with everything, and just look nice all the time. Same with nicely tailored pants. You can style them with sneakers, boots, flats or sandals, and they’ll look super chic and elevated. Some of my recommendations include this Aritzia Effortless trouser and this Veronica Beard one. And, don’t forget the Spanx PerfectFit collectionyou can use my code SUSIEXSPANX for 20% off your order!
