The 5 Hottest Shoe Trends of Summer
Many of us have a love affair with shoes, and we all know it’s the easiest way to make (or break) and outfit. While you don’t need a million shoes, owning several key pairs that are stylish and on-trend is the perfect way to update all your summer outfits. Your outfits will always come together if you have versatile shoes at your fingertips. Why? Let me explain.
After helping thousands of women in the dressing room over the last two decades, I’ve found that the right bottom and a simple, neutral shoe is the perfect starting combo of every outfit. If you’ve been in “Room 3” with me, you know that we can’t even get started until we find the best-fitting bottom piece. Once we do, adding a neutral shoe allows us to proceed with everything else! In other words, all your cool jackets, blouses, and fun summer tops will go with just one jean and shoe combo.. Recently, I wrote the post “I Stopped Buying Black Shoes … Here’s Why” so I could shed even more light on the subject!
So, today’s post is about a key piece we all love … shoes! I’m covering the five hottest shoe trends of the summer, but there are some I’m skipping, like the Mary Jane shoe trend — no thank you! 😂 Keep reading to see what the shoe trends actually are, a little street style inspo, and which shoes might be worth adding to your cart. Cheers!
Shoe trends: Red
The color red is everywhere at the moment, and it won’t be going away any time soon. Lately, I’ve been spotting red shoes on all the cool girls and believe it or not, it’s an easy trend to add to our wardrobes. Some styling ideas include red shoes with white dresses (which are perfect this time of year), and of course, every favorite pair of jeans in your closet. I LOVE this one, and see below for some favorites I’ve been watching out for.

Denim jacket | White dress | Red sandals | Red bag | Gold necklace
Thong sandals
Every now and then, I can’t get an outfit out of my mind — does that ever happen to you? Well, last summer, Kendall Jenner was wearing a combo I couldn’t stop thinking about. Her long linen dress paired with thong sandals and a baseball hat looked so chic! Even though she’s a fraction of my age – and likely yours – we can still get a little style inspo from her … right?

Shoe trends: White
Last year, I was obsessed with the sandals I’m wearing above, and was so excited when I found them while shopping in Paris! Recently, while perusing the Revolve website, I was surprised to see an almost exact copy. These shoes are another super easy style to pair with pretty much everything in your closet.

Kitten heels
This summer, kitten heels add the perfect polish to all your outfits. Slightly sexy but just as easy to wear, kitten heels elevate your look just a bit. Below are a few faves.

Crop Sweater | Tank | Skirt | Heels | Earrings | Straw bag
Low Profile sneakers
Finally … another option to the stylist favorite Sambas! Low profile, retro sneakers are the latest cool shoe to enter the scene. I love these new Vejas, and here are a few others I found for you!

I know, this sounds really dramatic, but hear me out!! Black shoes can be really tricky, especially when it comes to styling them with dresses — sometimes they can look too severe. As stylists, we know this fact: with black shoes, your eyes go straight to your feet. Yes, yes, we all need a great black shoe (or two) in our wardrobes. So, if you do want to wear them, just choose a simple strappy sandal or a slingback. But, I don’t think they’re super important … especially now as we enter the summer season.
