7 Items That’ll Make Your Wardrobe Feel More Relevant

Working on articles with Who What Wear is one of my favorite things to do, and you can imagine how honored I am when asked for my “advice” on fashion and style. My partnership with WWW is coming up on four years now, and I continue to be extremely proud to be affiliated with them. Recently, I was asked about which items make my wardrobe feel more relevant. I enjoy figuring out what trends work, and if you add pieces little by little, you’ll end up with a wardrobe that feels current and stylish. You can read the article “I’m A Former Nordstrom Buyer And These 7 Items Make My Wardrobe Feel More Relevant” here.

After carefully planning my spring and summer wardrobe, I’ve zeroed in on the most important trends you’ll wear all season long, and I’m excited to share them with all of you. For example, you’ll see the Aritzia skirt that everyone needs, the bomber jacket that’s my absolute go-to, and of course, wide-leg denim that gives your denim a refresh. Remember to focus on items you truly love and feel good in!  In my opinion, it’s actually better to have fewer pieces — this makes getting dressed much much easier.

P.S. Today’s post is a recap from my latest WWW article. Remember, when the article first appears in WWW, the clothing selections are made by Bobby and his team (he also chooses the title). But, when I recap the article, the items shared are MY picks. I hope you like them!

No. 1 – Full Skirt

Talk about a current wardrobe update! Skirts are super relevant at the moment, and a style that’s longer and more full will give everything in your closet a refresh. I’ve been wearing mine with a button-up top and sandals, and sometimes, I throw on a belt just to mix things up. Loved this white one so much I ended up getting the black one as well. I also have my eye on this eyelet one and khaki one, both from Veronica Beard.

No. 2 – Wide Leg Denim

If you purchase one pair of jeans this season, make it a wide-leg style! Wide-leg denim gives all our jeans outfits an update. I wear them with sandals and slingbacks and sneakers when running errands. A lighter, faded wash is perfect for spring and summer. The Paige Annessa is my favorite, and the Frame Le Slim Palazzo is another best seller that everyone loves.

No. 3 – Shirt Dress

Longer shirt dresses are perfect for this time of year. They’re comfortable, easy to style, and you can wear them with every kind of shoe, from flat sandals to taller wedge sandals to sneakers. I love this one by Quince, and also spotted this Veronica Beard denim one, and this gorgeous Max Mara one too.

No. 4 – Belted Denim Jacket

Current status of a denim jacket: in. This classic is a key piece in our wardrobes, so update it by grabbing a belted style. Some are slimmer fitting, and some are oversized, so go with your preference. Maybe even try the double-denim look! This one at the Gap is amazing, and so is this one. See below for a few others I found for you.

No. 5 – Trousers

Trousers are another item that will level up your wardrobe. For spring, look for linen styles or lighter colors. I think trousers look best with any style of shoe. Although, I love them with a cool sneaker like Sambas for more casual days. Some favorites include this Aritzia one, this linen one by J.Crew, and this one i’m wearing above. All super stylish and easy to wear.

No. 6 – Bomber Jacket

These days, I’m pairing a bomber-style jacket with skirts, longer-length denim, over dresses — it all works. A bomber jacket is super versatile, and there are many options right now, so find one you like and wear it with everything! I’ve been wearing this Theory one on repeat (and it’s currently on sale), and am considering trying the linen version in navy or white. I recently saw this denim version which is super cute too.

No. 7 – Denim Skirt

Denim skirts are still popular this season, and it’s easy to see why! Whether you prefer a longer midi length or a shorter style, it adds relevancy to your wardrobe by giving it an instant update. A denim skirt looks great with a sweater, a button-down, a blazer, or even double denim! Right now, I’m seeing all lengths — so find one you love, I promise you’ll wear it all the time.
