10 things Nordstrom stylists recommend, without fail
… including the latest N6 drop pieces
Back in pre-pandemic days, when I was working as a personal stylist at Nordstrom, one of the things I loved most was sharing ideas with my co-workers. We would always peek in each others rooms, often “borrowing” cool items from one another. It was really fun! Unfortunately, those days are long gone — but now I have my special Nordstrom6 stylist friends, and we share ideas on a daily basis — and this collaboration means a lot to me!
Today’s post is about 10 things Nordstrom stylists recommend, without fail. We either own them, want them, or recommend them to everyone we talk to 🙂 After spending hours and hours trend shopping, trying on clothes and scouring online with these lovely ladies, I decided to compile a list of must-haves for you. And if a group of stylists with a collective 100+ years of experience picked these items, you can’t trust that they’re really good! Cheers 🥂
P.S. This past week, my Nordstrom Stylist friends and I announced our April “N6 Drop” (a monthly drop of six of our favorite, best-selling items). See the latest N6 drop at the bottom of this post. I’m sure you’ll love them!
#1 We stylists all love a good blazer
Anthropologie blazer | Mother denim | Jimmy Choo sandals | AGOLDE tank
A blazer is a staple piece we all love. The versatility and styling options are endless, and it’s an easy way to look polished and cool. For a splurge, we recommend a Veronica Beard blazer like this one. For a summer linen style, I love this one by J.Crew, and this Cinq à Sept white one has been a go-to over dresses. Throw one on over a tank, a slip dress, or pair with your favorite jeans.
#2 Rails dresses are ideal for this time of year
Left: Denim jacket | Rails dress | Straw bag | Sandals | Right: Denim jacket | Rails dress | Straw bag | Sandals
We stylists all agree, spring dresses are key, and Rails dresses are faves this time of year. Whether you prefer a longer midi-style like this one or this, or shorter ones like this and this, the options are endless. You’ll wear them all spring long, including on the weekends with sneakers, on vacation, or to casual brunch or bbq. Trust me, you’ll be happy you own a few!
#3 We all love our denim!
Left: J.Crew cardigan | White denim | Sandals | Tote | Right: J.Crew cardigan | Mother denim | Sandals | Ulla Johnson blouse
We ALL love our jeans, and it goes without saying, denim is the starting piece of every outfit. On a recent trip, we agreed the Paige Cindy, Mother Hustler and Frame Mini Boot are our favorites. They fit all sizes and heights, and we all own them. We discussed correct length, and the conclusion is that when it comes to ankle crop denim, there should be a little gap between your shoe and the jean. Sandy was wearing the Fidelity Cher, and it touched her sneaker, so we decided they needed to be altered slightly – hah!
#4 You can never have too many casual/denim jackets
Left: Frame denim jacket | Paige tank | Mother denim | Sandals | Bracelet | Straw bag | Right: Rails jacket | Stripe tee | Denim | Sandals | Straw tote
We all own and constantly wear our denim jackets. Casual jackets or denim jackets are a key piece in making stylish, everyday outfits. Both Sandy and I own this one by L’Agence, and it’s a little bit of a splurge, but EVERYONE who tries it on falls in love! I highly recommend it. For an affordable option, look at this one by Levi’s and this one from Rails. I’m often asked what to do if you live in a warm, humid climate, and this new gauze jacket (above) could be perfect. I should also mention this $59 utility jacket — it’s a good one if haven’t already purchased it. I’ve written about it at length for over two years 😉
#5 We recommend Gucci everything!
As stylists, we believe in having a few key pieces you’ll wear all the time — and for years to come. I know this sounds a little over the top, but investing in special Gucci items that you’ll wear often is worth every penny. I had been going back and forth on finding the perfect loafer, until it became clear: the Gucci loafer is THE one to purchase! These rubber sandals from last year are still a solid buy, and so is this Gucci sandal that a couple of my friends own. You can’t go wrong with the bucket bag, and the Marmont handbag collection is incredible. And, this camera bag is pretty much the perfect crossbody bag. Finally, the Gucci belts with tonal hardware are so versatile … and they’re brand new!
#6 Totes and straw bags are a handbag necessity
Straw bags and totes are another trend that’s not going away anytime soon. Why? Because they pretty much go with every single spring and summer outfit! This splurge one by Loewe has been my go-to for two years in a row. If you’d like an affordable version, my N6 friends and I love this new one by Longchamp. Another brand I check regularly is btb Los Angeles, same with J.Crew. Get one early so you get longer wearing time — starting now through September/October.
#7 Oversized shirts are the trend we’re loving this year
Left: Pink Striped Shirt | White Shorts | Tank | Sandal | Straw Bag | Bracelet | Right: Blue Striped Shirt | Jeans | Cashmere Sweater | Heels | Sunglasses | Bag
The loose, oversized shirt trend continues, and these are pieces everyone can wear multiple ways. We love to wear them open like a jacket over slimmer fitting tank tops, shorts and dresses. You can also wear them over slimmer jeans and sandals all summer long, and of course you can tuck them in and blouse them for a cool, chic look! I love the Kayla ones by Citizens of Humanity. The striped ones by Rag & Bone are a N6 favorite, and I’m tempted by this pink striped one too.
#8 Flat, everyday sandals
We all need flat, everyday sandals. They go with denim, dresses, skirts, and even more casual pants like this matching set from Varley (see this video). The two I wear on repeat are the splurge YSL ones, and the Sam Edelman Bay sandals that come in loads of different colors. My go-to’s are the caramel, tan and black patent ones. This new pearl-trimmed pair is the one my N6 friends and I selected for this month’s drop — because we love it!
#9 Nordstrom brands that are affordable and stylish
Left: Halogen cardigan | Right: Treasure & Bond $49 dress
We all love the Nordstrom brand, and Treasure & Bond is probably our favorite. This $49 dress is versatile (size up), and it comes in several colors. This Halogen cami and cardigan are items everyone needs, and I’ve written about them over and over! Finally, if you want a stylish, trendy brand, check out Open Edit. We recommend this best-selling $49 flowy pant.
#10 Vacation must-haves
Left: Rails gauze shirt | Caslon linen pants | Gucci sandals | Right: J.Crew coverup | La Blanca swimsuit | Sandals | Tote
Most of us need a new swimsuit, and I can share this after helping many women in the dressing room: shopping for swimsuits is no fun!! If you get a solid, simple, sophisticated one piece, then your styling options are endless. If you’re like me and don’t really go in the pool 😂, then it’s your coverup that’s the star! I love almost every swimsuit from La Blanca, and of course all the J.Crew swimsuits. Add a fun cover up like this or this, and you’ll be all set for your next pool day!
