Prioritize: Trench coat | Paige denim | Blouse | L’Agence sandals | Tote bag
Prioritize your purchases this spring … here’s how!
A couple of months ago, someone asked me, “how should I prioritize my purchases when (re)building a wardrobe?” Great question, and I quickly thanked her for the blog post topic 😉 You see, what I learned over two decades of helping women one-on-one is that we often buy things that don’t actually make outfits. It’s really important to buy items that are versatile, stylish and that go with other things you already own. In response to her question, I wrote this blog post on how to prioritize your purchases in 2023.
That post caught the eye of my friend Bobby Schuessler, the Senior Editor for Who What Wear. For this month, he asked me to hone in on spring purchases. So, here’s a section from the latest WWW article, with an intro by Bobby. I couldn’t have said it any better! “Susie Wright’s sartorial insights are always intriguing. After all, she’s been working in the industry for years as a former Nordstrom buyer and current stylist, and blogger with So Susie. So, when Wright offered up her spring shopping list, we listened.”
“According to Wright, there are a few specific trends that are worth prioritizing to build out a well-balanced spring wardrobe. While all of the trends are unique in their own right, they’re similar in that they’re all very versatile. And, they could be styled with a range of other basics that are probably already in your closet. Keep scrolling to check out Wright’s favorite spring items. Also, you’ll uncover styling references and testimonials from her. And, if you’re in the mood to shop, there are inspired product recommendations for each category as well.”
Happy Anniversary, WWW 🌺
I love working on articles with Bobby and WWW, and you can imagine what a career highlight it is for me. As a matter of fact, it has been exactly three years this month since we first connected, and we’ve collaborated on an article almost every month since! I’m so so grateful, thank you 🤍
Loose shirting
Poplin shirt | Jeans | Sandals | Sunglasses | Dior Tote Bag | Weekender Bag
Paired with denim or shorts, or open over a dress, loose shirts are super chic and easy. This is a popular trend right now, and they’re absolutely everywhere! Look for short or long-sleeved versions, solid or stripes — you can’t go wrong with any of these styles. My favorites include the Kayla shirt, the Rails Arlo shirt and this Rag & Bone. And they’re all so versatile, you’ll wear them all the time.
Modern denim silhouette
Camo jacket | Jeans | Blouse | Heels | Crossbody bag | Sunglasses
Spring is the ideal time to include new denim silhouettes in lighter washes. Whether you’re going for faded denim, white, or écru, they all work with your other items. So, prioritize updating your denim — it’s the easiest way to stay current! My newest favorites (besides the usual Mother and Paige jeans) are this Rag & Bone Peyton style and this new AG Farrah crop boot cut.
Floral dresses
Zimmermann dress, similar | Sandals | Handbag | Sunglasses
Dresses are a top priority for spring! They’re feminine and pretty, and super easy to wear to many events. Whether it’s running errands in flat sandals or dressed up for an occasion, dresses are a spring go-to. Zimmermann (like this) is a favorite splurge dress brand, and perfect for weddings. I also love Cara Cara and anything from Farm Rio, like this brand new one. They’re all perfect for your spring events!
Denim jackets
Denim jacket | Dress | Handbag | Heels | Sunglasses
Denim jackets are wardrobe staples, and introducing a newer silhouette will update all your spring outfits. Prioritize vintage styles with a little distressing, or ones that are slightly oversized. You’ll wear them with everything, trust me. This $98 one by Levi’s is a great option, and so is this one by Rails. See below for other favorites.
Pretty white blouses
Blouse | Jeans, Similar | Heels | Straw tote | Sweater | Sunglasses
A pretty white top and faded denim is a classic spring combo that always looks clean. And, if you add a chic sandal and basket bag, and throw a simple white cardigan over your shoulders, you’ll be good to go! I love the Rails one above, or this one from Sanctuary for almost half the price. Check out this new one from Ulla Johnson, and this one too.
Statement shoe/bag combo
Dress, Similar | Sandals | Straw tote | White denim jacket | Watch | Sunglasses
A good spring shoe/bag combo will complete every outfit. For instance, try a caramel-colored shoe and a straw bag. This color combination goes with almost everything! Putting together bag/shoe combos that easily go together is one of the quickest ways to get out the door 😉
Trench coats
Trench coat | Paige denim | L’Agence sandals | Halogen tank | Tote | Necklace
Trench coats are timeless, and always in style. So, incorporating a lighter-weight trench to your spring wardrobe is a smart addition! Wear with a simple white tee and faded denim for the perfect casual (and trending) outfit. Sam Edelman makes a great spring trench, and I also like this one by J.Crew, and this one too.
