The secret to looking good in a swimsuit!

Let’s face it: the thought of putting on a swimsuit can feel, well, not that great … especially if you’re pale after a long winter 😂 But over the years of spending spring break in Mexico or Hawaii (usually with other families), I started picking up on a few tips that work every time. For example, cute sunnies make you feel glamorous, pre-trip self-tanner gives you a little confidence in case you’re pale, and a great hat hides bad hair days. So, what’s the secret to looking good in a swimsuit? It’s a coverup!! Yep, having several super cute coverups you feel really good in works magic, and if you’re like me, wandering around without a one isn’t an option 😊

Wearing glamorous sunglasses on vacation works wonders! You can skip makeup all day and still feel really good 🙂 I recently tried Maui Jim sunnies, and I must say: adding polarized sunglasses to my collection is long overdue. For starters, they’re recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation for eye protection, so they’re legit. And, everything you see looks brighter and more colorful! I love that one-piece swimsuits are chic and super stylish because they’re so flattering and the options are endless! My two favorite go-to’s for well-priced, solid colored swimsuits are J.Crew and Tommy Bahama (this one and this one in particular).

Start a hat collection
I’m not joking — start a hat collection! I should take my own advice 😂 As you can see in all my photos, I’m due for a new hat (!!) Lately I’ve been loving visors, and just spotted this one. Bucket hats are still everywhere, so try this one. I’ve had this J.Crew packable hat for several years, and now they came out with an update — see it here. Finally, baseball hats are super popular and they look really stylish with a swimsuit and sandals. I have this one arriving any day!
Cute jelly sandal & tote combos
If you’re going to be around a pool or the beach, then jelly sandals are practical and cute! I’m loving the jelly trend, and have worn this pair everywhere for three years. The Gucci slides are surprisingly comfortable, and you might appreciate the extra height. Not everyone does, and that’s ok — there’s also this pair that’s just as good. Also, everyone should have at least one cool tote to carry everything around while on vacation. I’ve been using this one non-stop, but there are other good ones too — see below.

Find a few great coverups
Start with a simple white shirt style, like this best-selling J.Crew one; you’ll wear it all the time (and not just over bathing suits). Then, add a sophisticated black one or a leopard one like this that can transition to HH. Finally, there are so many that look like dresses, check out this, this or this!

Self-tanner is a great way to start summer
Since lying in the sun isn’t good for our skin, finding a great self-tanner is a smart option. I recently discovered Tan Luxe, and have been using both the body lotion and the drops. They really work! My daughter Em loves the St. Tropez, and uses this mousse regularly.
