These dresses will cover you for any occasion!

Happy Easter everyone! Hope you’re enjoying time with family and friends 🌸 I took a long walk this morning, and thought about how grateful I am for my life and my health — and, of course, for all of you!

All the style writers are calling 2022 the Year of the Wedding. I don’t have a wedding to attend, but I do have two boys who are graduating this year (one from high school and one from college), so I need a couple of special dresses … and dresses are definitely THE item of the season! Dresses are the easiest way to put outfits together, so having a few good ones in your rotation is key. Whether you’re going to a beach wedding, a birthday celebration, a cocktail party or a graduation, dresses are the most stylish option at the moment. There are many different styles, lengths and patterns available right now, so I’ve put together all my selections below. I’m confident that these dresses will cover you for any occasion!

Today’s post is long overdue … and I’m really excited to share my finds with you! Ideally, you want to choose dresses you feel good in (i.e. that fit well) and that are versatile (i.e. you can wear them to several events). A slipdress (yep, they’re still trending) is the perfect example of this: add a blazer for an elegant look, a leather jacket for a cool vibe, or a cardigan for extra warmth. This week, I noticed in a Who What Wear article that many of the guests at the Beckham-Peltz wedding were wearing slip dresses, including Victoria Beckham herself. Read on to get ideas on how to take dresses to the next level with great shoes and accessories. Cheers!

P.S. I hopped in my closet this morning to film a quick Reels video where I share three dresses and how to style them. Click here to shop the board with all the pieces from the video. And if you’re new around here, click here to subscribe so you never miss a post!

Veronica Beard

Veronica Beard makes some of my favorite dresses. The fit is always good, and they’re pretty, feminine and perfect for many occasions. I love this sequined one, and if I had an occasion I would wear it in a heartbeat. This blue printed one is also gorgeous, and could be dressed down with a denim jacket. And finally, this bright pink one (also comes in black) is another stunner and sold out almost everywhere, except I found a few sizes here.

Bright, pretty colored dresses

Sometimes you just want something pretty and bright, and thankfully this year there are many options! I adore this Farm Rio dress, and for $230, it looks much richer than it is. It’s also available in bright green and gorgeous yellow. Also, you might like this blouse and skirt by L’Agence. The one-shoulder rouched style called Diana is by Norma Kamali, and it’s all over Instagram right now (available here, here and here is many different colors) It’s absolutely gorgeous!

Netural dresses

Champagne and soft beige neutral dresses are so elegant, and you’ll feel amazing if you find one that compliments your skin tone. They look beautiful when accessorized with similar shades of beige, or a soft white or ivory, or black (of course). Check out this one by Zimmermann, and this best-selling Vince silk wrap dress.

Slip dresses

A slip dress is one of the most versatile dresses you can own. Don’t forget Nippies (learn more here), or the best-selling Wacoal strapless bra. If it makes you feel more confident, try this body slimmer by Spanx – I wear it under tighter dresses. This Vince slipdress is an all time favorite, available here and here. Express does a great job too, and these are under $80. L’Agence is another great brand — simple and elegant.

LBD favorites

Everyone needs a LBD (little black dress)! This one by A.L.C. is a good one, and it comes in other colors too. It works for a cocktail event, a dressy wedding and and many other occasions when a LBD is an option. I mentioned the Vince one above, but it’s worth noting that the black is an all time favorite.

Favorite “third” pieces over jackets

Finding something to help you stay warm (or not show your arms!) is key. You want to try to get the proportion right too. For example, the Cinq á Sept blazer I always talk about doesn’t work over a slip dress for me because I’m not tall enough. But for many, it’s perfect! Also look at this J.Crew linen blazer, this inexpensive bolero cardigan, any Oscar de la Renta cardigan (they’re made for dresses), and a leather jacket if appropriate for the event.

Thank you for reading and Happy Easter!
