I Was Done With These Trends, But Now I Love Them

When you’ve been in the fashion business as long as I have (in other words, a reaaalllyy long time 😂), you get to watch trends come, and go, and then come back again 😉 So when Bobby Schuessler of Who What Wear asked me to think about trends I was done with but now I love again, several came to mind! As I get my new-season wardrobe ready to go, the trends below are ones I actually haven’t worn in a while but am bringing back for spring. These include all things green, sexy slingbacks, comfy oversized shirts and dark denim … just to name a few.

Today’s post is a recap of the recent WWW article about the 6 trends I’ll be wearing this spring, plus my brand new picks for each style. I also added two more that were originally submitted but didn’t make the article. I often submit a couple of additional options so Bobby can choose his favorites! Click here to read the recent WWW article, it’s a good one. A huge thank you to Bobby and the team for including women over 40 in your fashion articles! Susie xx

#1 Shades of Green

Dress | Zara heels, similar | Gucci bag | Sunglasses | Bracelets

I’d been seeing a lot of kelly green for a while, but now, it’s all shades of green, including a softer pistachio. Go bold with a dress or jacket, or just add a pop of green with an accessory. Really, any shade works, so have fun with it! Some new items I’m eyeing include this cardigan sweater, this new dress and this fun scarf (perfect tied on a handbag) — all so cute and wearable.

#2 Slingback Heels

Black blouse | Leather blazer | White denim jeans | Prada heels | YSL totes | Celine glasses

I can’t think of an easier shoe to wear. The height of the kitten heel is perfect, and I love slingbacks with every style of denim. This spring, I plan on adding an anklet for just a little bit of extra sparkle. I have my eye on this one, and this one too — I can’t decide! For a Chanel-inspired slingback click here. I also love this Gucci one — these are great options!

#3 Oversized Poplin Shirts

Poplin top | Blue denim jeans | Heels | Balenciaga Tote | Sunglasses | Necklace | Bracelets

We wore oversize poplin shirts through the pandemic when we were comfy at home, gave them a break, and are now loving them again! Pair with denim or trousers for instant elegance. I love the best-selling “Kayla” style, this pink Zara one, and this new stripe one I just spotted at Nordstrom.

#4 Dark Denim

Trench coat | Anine Bing Tee | Flare denim jeans | Heels | Necklace | Sunglasses

I’ve been wearing lighter-wash denim practically every day for the past couple of years, and now, I’m so glad dark denim is back! It’s elevated and really easy to wear. Dark indigo jeans emerged at the recent spring/summer shows … and they look great with everything. In addition to jeans, I’m also loving dresses and skirts. Look at this brand new dress by Cinq á Sept, these wide-leg jeans, this Mother ankle jean and this shirt dress — so chic!

#5 Striped Cotton Dresses

Dress | Sandals | Tote | Necklace | Watch | Sunglasses

Stripes are all in right now, and these striped cotton dresses are trending — with good reason. They look great with sneakers and with sandals, and are ideal for any daytime outing. I haven’t worn mine since last summer, and I’m excited to pull them back out again. For other options look at this pink striped one (love), this tiered one (runs small) and this $32 one — love them all!

#6 Chunky Sneakers

Blazer | Tank | White denim jeans | Sneakers | YSL tote | Sunglasses | Bracelets | Necklace

It has been a while since I’ve worn chunky sneakers, but lately I’ve been seeing them on all the cool girls, and I think they’ll be a perfect switch-up for spring! I love this Alexander McQueen, and for an affordable option look here.

Midi-style dresses

A pretty midi dress will take you right into spring. I stopped wearing white versions last August, but am so excited to bring them out again. I love this midi style eyelet dress from Anthropologie — feminine, refined, and super stylish. Check out this new one from Revolve by and this pretty blue print one from Anthropologie – you’ll wear them all season long!

#7 Oversized denim jackets

J.Crew denim jacket | Mother white denim | Veronica Beard sandals | Gucci bag

Loving this new slightly oversized style that hits right below the hip. It’s perfect for airing with heavier sweaters now, and with tees later as we get closer to warmer weather. For a denim-on-denim look, pair with a matching jean – so coo! It has been a while since I’ve worn double denim, but I’ll try it again with an oversized jacket.
