These 8 pieces are the “secret sauce” to all my outfits!

I really enjoy working on articles for Who What Wear, and I research carefully in order to provide the very best content. So, when my friend Bobby Schuessler from WWW asked me about the current pieces I’m wearing that are essentially the “secret sauce” to my wardrobe … it got me thinking! Which cool new items that are on-trend, super wearable and work easily with all my basics? Well, these are the 8 pieces I wear regularly — they’re versatile, and they make some of my best outfits! If you’d like to read the recent WWW article, click here.

Scroll down for the 8 essentials that are the key to putting together some of my most complimented looks. For example, you’ll see everything from flared trousers to non-black handbags to pretty print dresses — all of which I’ll be wearing on repeat for the months to come! I hope you find some style inspo and, as always, thank you to Bobby and Who What Wear for the continued opportunity to share the things I love. ♥️

1. Flared Trousers

It’s helpful to have a non-jean option to wear with all my tops, and these flared trousers are flattering and leg-lengthening … I feel so tall! Lately, I’ve been seeing cool pants everywhere, and I’m loving the look (and am searching for a new black pair). I spotted this new pull-on style with ‘Ab-solution’ powermesh panels that mold and hold (!!). Also saw this new knit style by Frame, which is perfect for travel and nights out. And speaking of flares, these brand new Frame flared jeans are incredible, and I highly recommend them!

2. Utility Jacket

This is a wardrobe basic that works for pretty much everyone — I’ve probably recommended it to my clients over a hundred times! I’ll be wearing my utility jacket all spring long, with strappy sandals for a night out and sneakers on the weekend. I think everyone needs a version of this jacket in their wardrobes! This one from Banana Republic is a good one, and this one is a great option for under $100.

3. Sharp Blazer

Blazers are really trending right now, and a go-to style takes your entire outfit up a notch. Blazers are definitely a secret sauce item in my own wardrobe! I’m often asked which one I think is more versatile, the Veronica Beard Scuba, the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey, or this one by Cinq A Sept. My answer: I love them ALL (not joking), but the Cinq A Sept is a little more relaxed — it’s longer, and the scrunch sleeves make it less formal. As for the Veronica Beard jackets — both fit amazingly well, and the zip-in dickey options are so cool! If you’re looking for a faux leather one, this double-breasted style is sharp, and so is this slightly oversized one from Evereve. Both run a little small, so I suggest sizing up.

Bright new-ins that caught my eye

4. Straight-Leg Jeans

Talk about secret sauce: great denim is everything! I’ve pretty much scooted my skinnies off to the side, and now I’ll be wearing slim straight-leg styles (or wide-leg flares) all season long! (ICYMI, I check out this blog post on denim.) Styles I’m loving include the Paige Cindy, AG Mari, Fidelity Cher and Frame Le High Straight. Below are three brand new washes that caught my eye.

5. Printed Dresses

When spring rolls around and warmer weather arrives, pretty dresses are my favorite thing to wear. They’re easy, the options are endless, and they always look good. There are so many fun prints right now, and if you find one or two (or even three) you’ll have something easy to wear for most occasions. I love this striped Frame one, this one and this one — all bright, cheery and versatile!

6. Strappy Sandals

Talk about shoes that look great with absolutely everything! This is a major secret sauce item because strappy sandals are always chic, and they up your game no matter what you’re wearing. I look for a heel under 3 1/2 ” and right now there are many good options available. If you look for simple styles like this pair, or these metallic ones, you’ll have them for years because they’re true classics!

7. Non-Black Bag

Adding a bag that isn’t black to your wardrobe is a great idea! It adds a pop of color to all your outfits, and it’s the ‘secret sauce’ to a more interesting look. As long as you’ve got a great black bag or a neutral basic, I think adding a fun, colorful bag can level up all your outfits. Right now, I love the new Gucci collection with vintage silver hardware — this pink one is gorgeous, and so is this one!

8. Layered Jewelry

I recently gave my jewelry collection an update by adding a dome ring, a link chain necklace and a diamond layer. Jewelry is always a secret sauce item — most of us wear at least two pieces every day, and now with the stacking trend, feel free to add a few pieces. For a chic look, stack your necklaces, bracelets, and rings—the more the merrier!
