8 beauty hacks to look youthful and rested!

After spending 30+ years at Nordstrom and becoming a bit of a beauty junkie, I’ve learned a lot! I’m no makeup artist, but I am lucky to have some trusted sources in my inside circle: cosmetics managers, beauty stylists, counter managers, friends who are beauty obsessed — you get the idea. They tell me about what’s flying off the shelves, and the new must-haves we all need. And because I have this fun little blog, I then get to tell you about it!

Today’s post is about 8 of the best beauty hacks I’ve learned over the years that will help you look rested, and more youthful. This includes everything from eye makeup application tips to eye creams that actually work, as well as how to get a more even skin complexion. Nordstrom is always my go-to beauty destination, and happens to have the best selection of everything I love, like Charlotte Tilbury, Chanel, Tom Ford and Kate Somerville just to name a few. I’m also sharing some brand new things I’ve been trying lately that I think you’ll really like. Cheers!

Beauty hack #1 – Sunscreen

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream SPF 30 – We all know we need to wear sunscreen. And if you’re like me, sometimes you forget. This is why I love the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream that has an SPF 30. It’s moisturizing, smells good, and works nicely under foundation so you can skip primer. This is the first time I’ve been able to remember to consistently wear SPF every day. (Don’t forget your neck!)

Supergoop! Glo Screen – Speaking of good sunscreens, this Supergoop! Glo Screen was perfect for my recent sunny vacation. It has an SPF 40, is lightly tinted, and was the winner of Allure Magazine’s ‘Best of Beauty’ Award.

Supergoop! Mineral Powder (Re) Setting Mineral Powder Foundation – This Mineral Powder Foundation has an SPF 35 and will give you a flawless complexion and sun protection on warm, sunny days. It’s a go-to, and you’ll feel pretty, even while hot and possibly perspiring 🙂

Beauty hack #2 – full brows

Recently I was wandering through Nordstrom talking with my friends, and the next thing I knew I was reclined in a chair in the Anastasia Brow Studio getting an eyebrow wax! WOW what a difference — in the past year, like many of us, I let my brows go crazy. This was a clear reminder of how important our brows are!

Anastasia Brow Whiz – a long time go-to, this is all you need for gorgeous looking brows. It has a spoolie on the other end of the pencil for blending. Trust me, this is the best $23 you’ll ever spend!

Beauty hack #3 – It’s all about the eyes

Leopard jacket, similar

These days we’re often wearing masks, so it’s no surprise there’s a focus on the eyes. For a quick and impactful routine, try these 3 things!

Chanel Waterproof eyeliner – This is key! Tightlining your eyes will make the biggest difference. If you haven’t tried it, read this tutorial. This waterproof eyeliner is the only one to use – get it now!

Mascara – I love the Chanel Le Volume mascara and have gone through many many tubes

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow Stick – A new addition to my collection, and talk about easy! I’ve been wearing the color Dusty Mauve every day since purchasing it. My beauty stylist friend informed me these are his favorites

Beauty hack #4 – Add a good Vitamin C serum

… which will produce brighter, smoother skin

Having an even skin tone is something many of us strive for. Lately, for me, one step out in the sun and little brown spots instantly appear on my face. Here’s what my good friend and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Lauren Boudreaux says we need to do: “Vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights off damage from the sun and pollutants in the air that can lead to aging. Consistent daily use is essential, especially in the summer, to prevent premature aging. The trick is to find a formulation that has more than 10% Vitamin C.” Here are best-selling options, all with the higher concentration.

PCA C & E Strength Max Treatment – 20% Vitamin C

Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C Power Serum – 20% Vitamin C

Sunday Riley 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum – 15%

Lancôme Vitamin C Correcting Concentrate Serum – 15%

Beauty hack #5 – Retinols are the “Holy Grail” of cosmetics

According to Dr. Lauren, ”Retinoids are the holy grail of cosmetics. They work by accelerating skin turnover, clearing clogged pores, stimulating collagen production, and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles. You’d be hard-pressed to find a dermatologist that doesn’t use them regularly.” I found several top-rated ones to try, including this one by Murad which is well-priced at $28.00.

Beauty hack #6 – Cover up carefully

Kate Somerville Kateceuticals Lifting Eye Cream

As fine lines start to appear, using concealer often ends up in those lines. Finding a good eye moisturizing cream along with a light concealer will do the trick!

Kate Somerville KateCeuticals eye cream – newly launched, this “highly concentrated eye cream lifts and firms delicate under eye skin.” I’ve been using it for the last several weeks and am definitely noticing a difference.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma + Eye – another go-to I’ve used until the the jar is empty

Charlotte Tilbury Magic-Away Concealer – Light, adequate coverage and has a built-in applicator. I’ve gone through several of these! For reference I’m color 3

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Face & Undereye Concealer – I recently purchased this highly popular concealer, and it also has light coverage, didn’t settle in the wrinkles, and it has a little glow to it!

Beauty hack #7 – Lip shine

A couple of years ago, I noticed that after wearing lipstick all day, my lips looked a little dry. Not a good look, which is why the Chanel lipglosses are my everyday go-to. Yes even when we’re mask wearing (don’t ask what the inside of my mask looks like)!

Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss – I have at least 5 different colors and use them ALL over every shade of lipstick!

Charlotte Tilbury Jewel Lips lipgloss – Love this sparkly gloss, and it looks so pretty over your favorite Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks.

Beauty hack #8 – Splash on perfume

… but save money by buying a travel size or lotion

Tom Ford Rose Prick

Here’s the trick: when considering a new fragrance, look for a travel size which costs a fraction of the price. It’s a great way to try a new fragrance before going all in. Another idea is to purchase the lotion or body cream. Recently I wanted to try Byredo Bibliotheque, so I went for the hair perfume!

A new favorite fragrance is Tom Ford Rose Prick. Typically I go home with a tester, but I loved this so much I bought a travel size and body spray, and have used it daily ever since. Here are some other favorites you might like:

Le Labo Santal 33 perfume, and lotion

Tom Ford Rose Prick

Baccarat Rouge 540

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle

Victor & Rolf Flowerbomb
