Winter Capsule Wardrobe: 19 Special Pieces for the Season

Today I’m sharing 19 hand-picked pieces to help you build your best winter wardrobe. There’s a thoughtful mix of classics, and a few really special finds. I think you’re going to love this one 🤍

After years of working at Nordstrom as a buyer and personal stylist, I learned one thing early on — your basics have to be covered first. The trick is to find pieces that check every box: versatile enough to make multiple outfits, easy to wear across seasons, and stylish enough that you actually reach for them. Great outfits don’t need to be boring, so remember to find the special pieces that truly take your wardrobe to the next level.

Keep reading for the full edit of 19 beautiful pieces, designed to mix, match and work hard for you all season. The whole capsule actually started with several of the printed pieces like this embellished sweater and this beautiful silk blouse, and everything came together from there. The palette is soft greens, red, and touches of camel, faded blue, soft white and black — sophisticated and perfect for the season. Oh, and don’t miss my current discount codes at the bottom of this post. Happy outfit planning!

Plaid scarf jacket

Why I chose it: Sometimes the jacket ‘is’ the outfit. And, this red plaid jacket is a standout piece you’ll wear all season — plus the price isn’t too crazy! I added the new “it” bag called the Rodeo, which is currently on my radar. Perfect for every day, and it will make all your outfits cool. Also included is the special earrings I designed with Zoe Chicco, and she’s offering all of us 15% at checkout if you use this link.

Green Tweed Jacket

Left: Cashmere sweater | Jeans | Sneakers | Clutch | Bracelet

Right: Cashmere sweater | Skirt | Gold sandals | Clutch | Earrings

Tweed jacket with removable fur collar

Why I chose it: The Nordstrom label is looking really good lately, and of all the pieces, this jacket caught my eye! The collar is removable, it’s a pretty color, and the outfit possibilities are endless. Plus, it’s well priced. I scoured the internet looking for a bag, and was pretty excited when I found this new Strathberry one. It’s also a great color..

Ivory Blazer

Left: Floral silk blouse | Black jeans | Boots | Clutch | Earrings

Right: Slip dress | Cheetah bag | Gold sandals | Earrings

Ivory blazer

Why I chose it: A soft white blazer is a wardrobe staple that works any time of year, and Reiss is a great brand that everyone likes. The fit is really good, and quite often you can find petite sizes on their website. Wearing a blazer over a slipdress is always chic, and this Vince dress is an all-time favorite (they recently updated the neckline and straps).

Leopard Jacket

Left: Embellished sweater | Jeans | Clutch | Shoes

Right: Cashmere hoodie & Matching pant | Flat boots | Bag | Necklace

Leopard faux fur coat

Why I chose it: Animal print is having a moment right now, and this coat nearly stopped me in my tracks!  It’s one of those pieces you can easily wear with a matching set and sneakers, or over a fancy dress. Bambi print is also popular. In fact, I have antelope carpet in my closet, which is really similar. If you can believe it, I still love it five years later!

Black Wool Coat

Left: Black top | Skirt | Clutch | Knee boots | Earrings

Right: Sweater | Ivory pants | Bracelet | Bag | Flat boots

Black wrap coat

Why I chose it: Everyone needs a black (or navy) coat! This one can be easily substituted for one you like better. I just happened to like the removable fur collar! Wear it with jeans, dresses, skirts. This way, you can make many different outfits and still look elevated. Also, adding a knee boot might be a good idea. It’s an easy way to level up skirts and dresses. And, if you wear tights, you’ll be warm and cozy when it’s cold.
