A great coat is the best investment piece you can make for your wardrobe — hands down! Many years ago, fresh out of college, I landed my first job as a Nordstrom coat buyer. Two days later, it was off to New York City to preview coats and jackets for the fall season. It was a very exciting time; I got to experience New York in the 90s, and truly enjoyed every minute of it! That was the start of a lifelong affair with coats …. and I still love them to this day.
Remember, everyone sees your coat. Keep in mind, when you’re out and about town running errands, attending sporting events, going out to dinner – everyone sees you in your outerwear. Sometimes whatever’s underneath doesn’t really matter! Always make your coats stylish but practical, and don’t be afraid to purchase several. Trust me, you’ll wear them all.

Style tip: When it comes to a wool coat, look for this one detail that instantly elevates your look: double-faced wool. Double-faced wool coats are luxurious, and they look very expensive. The iconic brand, Max Mara, makes some of the most beautiful coats you’ll ever see. Believe me, if your budget allows, it’s worth the splurge. However, there are many options at much lower prices. A while back, I purchased this Mango one, and my friend in the Nordstrom tailor shop thought it was a Max Mara!
