The Ultimate Winter Capsule Wardrobe: 20 Pieces You’ll Wear on Repeat!
Creating capsule wardrobes for So Susie is at the top of my list … and I think you’re going to love this one 🤍 I spent hours selecting just the right items, and this time I’ve mixed in a few special pieces that will bring your outfits together beautifully. Having endless outfit combinations is helpful for all of us! And, since we’re heading into the holiday season, now is the time to start thinking about updating our winter wardrobes.
Stylist notes: Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what goes into selecting these pieces. First, I always start with jackets, and believe it or not, it took me at least four hours to land on these six special pieces! They need to be versatile enought to make at least three different outfits, and of course, super stylish so we all look on-trend for all our upcoming events. I’m also looking for a special piece or two that really makes the whole capsule. This month, it started with this Farm Rio sweater. And finally, I look for the best accessories and shoes I can possibly find. As you can see, there’s a lot of love that goes into this post, and it’s all hand-picked by me!
Keep reading to see this special edit of 20 beautiful pieces, designed to mix , match and work hard for you in the months ahead. Remember, this capsule is for inspiration, and you can easily substitute anything you already own. This month, I was inspired by shades of soft greens, beautiful merlot pieces, and little touches of soft white and rich blacks. These colors will give you a sophisticated, stylish look, and they’re perfect for this time of year.

How to Create Your Own Capsule Wardrobe
In order to create an amazing wardrobe, you have to start with the basics. Then, once you have the basics covered, you can throw in a trend piece or two. And after that, keep things fresh and updated by adding new, colorful accessories. It’s always hard to narrow this down, but the pieces below are ones I most recommend as we head into the winter season. Trust me, these pieces will make many stylish outfits!
Row 1: Scarf coat | Faux fur | Barbour jacket | Plaid scarf jacket | Burgandy long coat | Leather shirt jacket
2: Vince cardigan | Ivory turtleneck | Floral cardigan | Button front shirt | Gray cardigan | Turtleneck | Frame lace blouse | Poncho
3: Ivory pant | Burgundy pant | Mother jeans | Mother black wash jeans | Satin pants | Veronica Bead knit dress | Rails top & matching skirt
4: Green bag | Earrings | Floral scarf | Clutch | Dorsey bracelet | Clutch | Heart earrings | Optical glasses | Toteme bag
5: Gucci slingbacks | Veronica Beard boot | Silver sandal | Gold sandal | Veronica beard boots | Sam Edelman knee boots
All-Important Jackets
When I start working on a capsule wardrobe, it’s the jackets, or “third pieces,” that I think about first. Not only are these wardrobe staples ones that you’ll have for years to come, but they’re also an important part of any stylish outfit. Think of a coat or jacket as the foundation; the starting point of many great outfits.
Reiss Scarf Jacket
Left: Print turtleneck | Satin pants | Gold sandals | Green bag | Earrings | Right: Floral sweater | Jeans | Boots | YSL clutch | Earrings
Why I chose it: Scarf coats are everywhere this season, and this one in particular caught my eye. Reiss is a favorite UK brand, known for really nice quality. And, they make petites too, which you can see here.

Barbour Quilted Jacket

Left: button front shirt | Jeans | Booties | Gucci bag | Right: Turtleneck | VB pants | Croc print bag | Gucci slingbacks | Earrings
Why I chose it: Barbour is the “it” brand right now, and their coats and jackets are stylish, utilitarian and just … cool. One of my favorite ways to style the English Countryside jacket is to add a dressier piece, like the ivory pants and matching turtleneck. So chic!

Veronica Beard Plaid Scarf Jacket

Left: Striped button up | Mother jeans | Boots | Toteme bag | Right: Rails top & matching skirt | Clutch | Earrings | Knee boots
Why I chose it: A plaid jacket is versatile, and this one caught my eye — love the scarf detail! It works with denim, over a midi style dress or with a skirt and knee boots. Side note: these best-selling Sam Edelman boots are really good — you can wear them with anything!
Zara Long Burgundy Coat
Left: Floral turtleneck | Jeans | Dorsey bracelet | YSL clutch | Boots | Right: Grey flecked cardigan | Scarf | Earrings | Clutch | Jeans | Boots
Why I chose it: Every now and then, a trendy piece like this burgundy coat makes more sense if it’s affordable. Zara is a good stop for trendy pieces, and you’d be surprised at how good the quality is for the price!
Leather Shirt Jackets

Nordstrom leather shirt jacket
Left: Vince cardigan | Scarf | Jeans | Boots | Clutch | Right: Embellished cardigan | Satin pants | Green bag | Dorsey bracelet | Gold sandal
Why I chose it: Everyone should own a leather jacket imo, and this one has a casual feel. I’d pair it with a satin pant and heels for a chic look. It would also work with this Rails skirt, and with jeans of course.
Ponchos & Faux Fur

Left: Ivory turtleneck | Ivory pant | Sandals | Clutch | Dorsey bracelet | Right: Frame lace blouse | Frame velvet pants | Clutch | Earrings | Silver sandal
Why I chose them: These are the fun finishing touches, and both the faux fur jacket and Zara poncho are surprisingly versatile. The faux fur jacket looks amazing over a dress, either black or ivory. The jacket also looks stylish with jeans and boots. As for ponchos, I purchased a Zara version similar to the one in the board and wore it last year on repeat. My daughter bought the same one and styled it with a skirt and boots, while I wore mine with jeans.
