What It Takes To Build A Fall Wardrobe: Start With These 5!

A few days ago, I popped in to Nordstrom to see what I had missed while on vacation. As you might imagine, there were new items everywhere, and the store was in major fall mode! While wandering through the shoe department, I spotted a couple of boots, and in the name of “blog research,” I decided to try them on 😉 Well, they were both winners, and as I was walking back to my car, I thought to myself — I’ve never found boots this early in the season!

I share this story because I always recommend buying boots early in the season so you’ll have a longer wearing time. This is important, because they are an investment. I usually wait until December LOL — so learn from my mistakes. Fall is just a few weeks away, and while many of us are still in warm weather climates, it’s all about to change. And, if you’re like me, after wearing sandals for the last four to five months, it gets tricky when it comes to thinking about what to wear during the transition — especially when it’s not quite boot season yet!

Today’s post is about what it takes to build a fall wardrobe, and the first 5 pieces to focus on. When it comes to making stylish outfits, you need to begin with these foundational pieces. Ideally, they should be modern and on trend so your outfits look a little “extra.” For example, since denim is the starting point of most casual fall outfits, make sure you have well-fitting jeans. Same with boots. And, same with jackets. So, keep reading to see the 5 pieces you need now in order to lay the foundation for the best fall outfits!

#1 Start with denim, of course

This is probably the most important category to get right. If your jeans aren’t updated or don’t fit properly, then your outfits won’t come together, so get the best denim for you and build your outfit from there. When I was in the dressing room with my clients, we could not proceed until we found the perfect fitting jeans. They’re that important!

Favorite fits at the moment

Paige Anessa 31″These are similar in fit to the pair I’m wearing above, and hands down a top recommendation. Right now, the Paige website is having a 20% off site-wide sale and these are included. Don’t wait!

Frame Le Slim Palazzo – Very similar to the Paige Anessa, these are also top sellers that fit pretty much everyone. If you’re 5’4″ and under, check out the petite version here in black and here in a medium blue wash.

Lil’ Mother denim Talk about a game changer for those of us who are 5’4″ and under.!The knee placement is in the right place, the rise is adjusted, and the length is shorter, which all in all makes for a better fit if you’re petite. All the fits available on the Mother website are best-sellers and are available in regular sizes too. Check them out here, and also on the Nordstrom website.

Mother Outsider Ankle Fray – For an ankle length option, this one is a great pick, and you’ll love the faded blue wash

Rag & Bone Miramar Probably the coolest jeans out there right now. They’re not really jeans, but more like a sweat pant and everyone is loving them. I was going to wait and share them as a travel pant option, but they’re too good not to share now!

Rag & Bone Featherweight jeans – Another stylish jean, though I do think you need to be taller than 5’1″. If you are, these are fantastic

#2 Get your boots asap!

I know I sound like a broken record, but if you make it a point to buy boots earlier in the season, you’ll have a longer wearing time. And, since they’re usually a bit of a splurge, you’ll be happy you did! I love this dressier boot by Stuart Weitzman, and the heel height is perfect. These new Rag & Bone ones are also really good (I purchased these two). These Staud Wally boots are another good option, and a trusted friend told me she just purchased her third pair. I plan on trying them too!

#3 Look for jackets and coats — you can never have too many

Coats and jackets are some of the best investments you can make for your wardrobe
