The one color that works magic on every outfit
Several years ago, I was helping a client at Nordstrom. When we walked into the dressing room., the most beautiful bag was hanging on the hook! It was a creamy saddle brown caramel color, and it changed the way I think about this color. At the time, it was the “it” bag seen all over the streets of NYC during Fashion Week. And, there it was, hanging right in front of me 🙂 Sure, the Loewe Puzzle bag is still considered a classic — but it was the color that captured my heart. The beautiful outfits that were created around this gorgeous bag were so elevated and sophisticated, it really took everything to the next level.
Caramel is the one color that works for ALL seasons. It compliments all other colors: black, white, gray, navy, chambray, pink, bright pink, tan, green … I think you get the idea! Caramel (aka cognac or saddle brown) is sophisticated, elegant and timeless — a true classic. I’m even going to add leopard to this list, since it’s in the same color family and works just as easily with all the other colors. Talk about versatile! So, now the question is: which caramel-colored pieces should you invest in? Well, keep reading and I’ll give you my best suggestions!

First, invest in a great bag
This is probably the most important caramel-colored piece to own. Find one you love at a price that works, then make the investment. This See by Chloe wallet on a chain immediately sold out once my Nordstrom6 friends and I featured it — it’s a good one. I’m sure it’ll come back in stock, but for now, I’ve found this one here. I’ve always liked the Loewe Puzzle bag, and lately I’ve been loving the YSL Hobo bag. For spring and summer, try a straw bag like this Instagram favorite. Then make sure you’re covered re: shoes
I suggest making sure you have a great everyday sandal for warmer weather, like this YSL one. For similar (and way more affordable) options, look at this Sam Edelman one and this one too. Just choose one that’s versatile and it’ll go with every single thing you own. Again, caramel is the one color that always works!

Accessories complete every outfit, so definitely add a caramel-colored belt to your accessory collection. This affordable one by Madewell is the perfect shade. For a designer splurge, try this Celine one or this one by Loewe. Watches are another way to add a little interest. And, while tying a scarf to your bag isn’t necessary, it’s a really fun touch if you find one you love. You can work magic on your outfits by adding the right accessories — so have fun with it!
